Article: Europe Doesn’t Recognise Australian Vaccination Certificates

Yeah, I saw those. I meant to mention that peeps had mentioned the pharmac_ route in Germany but it doesn’t seem to get as much mention here as France.

It want entitle clear if the “Luca” app was official or 3rd party… Presumably you could use any EU app once you have a QR code?

Also interested in the Germany options. We arrive directly in to Frankfurt.
It looks like finding a pharmac_ to convert is the only option:

The FAQ on the German Australian Diplomatic doesn't give much help:

Can I convert my Australian international vaccination certificate into an EU digital vaccination certificate?

The purpose of the EU Digital COVID certificate is to help facilitate free movement and travel within the EU for both EU citizens and non-EU nationals already in the EU.

At the moment there is no formal process in place for converting vaccination certificates from abroad into EU digital certificates.

So far, several non-EU countries joined the EU Digital COVID Certificate System. Australia is not part of these countries.

Once you are in Germany, you can ask a GP or pharmac_ for assistance in converting the Australian international COVID certificate. However, as there is no obligation for these institutions to do so and there might be technical difficutlies as well, there is no guarantee that a conversion is at all possible. Therefore also see advice above on restrictions of public life in Germany.

The Australian international vaccination certificate is valid for entry into Germany.

That PDF link didn’t work for me.

In the meantime, Australia has been removed from the “High risk” category as of 28 Feb:

There were some reports that some relaxation of rules is coming mid / late March but they may not go as far as some other Euro nations with higher vax rates.

PDF was basically just a 5 step

Use Apotheke finder to find a site
Take documents to Apotheke
Receive paper certificate
Scan on Covpass-App
Good to go
The next hurdle will be getting the Covpass-App. It‘s not available for download in Oz. I might try and see if a VPN can get around that or try the German App Store…

There’s mention of other apps, but I’m always a bit sus about using 3rd party (unofficial apps…).

I tried VPN and Fake GPS but it wouldn't let me, so I just got an APK and installed direct.

I'm just hoping an Apotheke can do it quickly.

Had issues linking my vaccine certificate as my first name is technically hyphenated… so passport didn’t match medicare exactly. Call to medicare at 6am - yes! their call centre *is* 24 hours, with a live human - and all details now match and certificate attached.

As all the details had been updated it was then an easy call to AIR to link dual pp to certificate. It will be sent out by post.

Thanks for all the advice in previous posts.

I read today that Greece is expected to stop requiring the PLF (passenger locator form) come end March but no formal announcement or confirmation yet.

An FYI:
#3 son has just flown SQ from MEL-SIN-LHR arriving in the UK just about 24 hours ago. Triple vaccinated, he was fully armed with all vaccination paperwork both AU and EU on his phone and as hard copy (he's a dual citizen). Both the A350 and A380 were only about half full - so he had plenty of choice of rows to stretch out (travelling Y).

He tells us in a brief Messenger post "(At MEL) Security and immigration were the fastest - The only checks of vaccination and location form (UK document) were required."

Nothing at Singapore, nothing at LHR apart from his locator form, nothing on public transport/stations, nothing at restaurants: "I am yet to show a vaccination record or the UK pass yet - Covid doesn't exist here - in case you didn't know."

SYD+1 stumbled across that PDF instruction for Germany - same link as you posted. Noticed the comment that it could take several days, but that might be dated info assuming all the locals have theirs by now.

It also confirmed my concern about getting the iOS version of the Cov-pass app. I tried changing my App Store to Germany but it seems to want a German CC! Will have to play around with another Apple ID to see if I can get it to work. Otherwise, I’m hoping it will allow download once there! Apparently a hard copy of the EU QR code will suffice if all else fails…

The Luca app mentioned elsewhere appears to be just the QR checkin app and seperate to to proof of vax.

Of course, we’re hoping that some or all these will be gone by the time we get there in April.

For those tracking the German sub-thread, I was able to download the German iOS Cov-pass app by switching my Apple ID from Oz to a US one I already had. The only injury was losing all my CCs in wallet and I had to reauthorise all of them…

Curious if peeps were able to get it ok once on the ground in Germany?

I’ll try downloading it on my iPad in a few weeks time and report back. Unless it’s no longer required by then!

I've seen the earlier posts about not being able to obtain EU certificates from Switzerland any more, but does anyone know if they will still issue the certificates in person once you're over there?

I will be flying into Zurich and visiting other EU countries afterwards, and obtaining the EU certificate prior to that would save some hassle especially as it is not clear what is or isn't required in countries like Austria and Germany.

For those trying to download the country specific covid pass app, you don't need to. Any covid pass app from any participating country is fine.

I have my one on the Austrian app for instance.

It will soon be of no concern.European countries are starting to wind back the need for a vaccination certificate, France and Belgium so far.

That was my understanding. But it does seem stupid that some countries lock their apps to their own region App Store… Technically, a paper copy of an EU compatible QR code is all that’s required in some countries (eg Germany).

It appears that way. Germany is a little behind on vax rates compared to some other EU states. Their restrictions are due to expire on or around 20 March. We’re expecting that they‘ll drop all the restrictions that affect the average tourist. But it pays to be ready in case they delay or reintroduce some.

In Heidelberg, Germany this week. Frankfurt Airport on arrival, no checking of vaccination status.
Hotel (Marriott) asked for vaccination certificate - visual of my international certificate on my phone was enough,
Also, hotel staff insisted I change to N95 mask (I had blue surgical mask handed out on Emirates). Luckily I bought a pack in Dubai...

Pubs/bars in Heidelberg was mixed (some strictly asked for vaccination proof, others did not - but that seems to correlate with how late in the evening it was!
It all cases, my international certificate on phone was fine - they tried to scan and when it doesn't work they check the last vaccine date visually. One asked for other ID to prove I was not EU citizen.

Checking in at Frankfurt on the way home tonight was asked for vacc certificate (I showed paper copy) and DPD (I showed phone app).

Hoe that helps
