Article: Europe Doesn’t Recognise Australian Vaccination Certificates

I'm hoping that if @Mattg is in Portugal he might give us an update about the current Portuguese requirements?

I just flew FRA-LIS-FAO and was not asked for my Covid certificate, passenger locator form or any other Covid-related documentation at any point in the journey.

I did walk past a thermal scanning machine that was taking people's temperatures on arrival at FAO, but it wasn't manned.

On the ground in Portugal, masks are still mandatory in hospitals etc. and on most public transport. That's pretty much it. No vaccination certificates required, etc.

Apparently the rules were relaxed in Portugal last Saturday.

Haven’t really been following this lately so apologies if it has been discussed already. Travelling to France then Italy in just under 4 weeks. Couple of quick questions:

- Will the International Vaccination Certificate issued through MyGov with the QR code etc get me through immigration at CDG?
- Will it get me into Italy when I fly CDG-NAP a few days later?
- Is there any reason to still get this converted to the EU version once arriving in Paris? Going to be visiting restaurants, busses, trains, ferries etc in Paris, Rome & the Amalfi Coast as well as the French Open tennis.

Thanks

Yes.

It should, Italy is less restrictive than France.

No need in France anymore.

I thought it was posted pages back that they only issue it to citizens/perm residents now.
I can confirm that Switzerland still issues a COVID Vaccination Certificate to a Swiss National who was vaccinated in Australia (3 doses). I applied on Tuesday morning (Aus Intl Certificate & Copy of Passport) and just received my Swiss Certificate via email link now, so in less than 24 hours. I did not find an option for a non-Swiss Citizen to apply on the BAG homepage tough.

Yes it should be fine at airports.

It is once you are in a country and want to go to venues that people have had trouble with the Aust certificate. But I am not sure how many European venues are still requiring proof of vax.

The Irish process (which was linked way back at the start of this thread) also still works, but again only for citizens so won't be too helpful for most of those on this forum: https://covidcertificateportal.gov.ie/en-US/third-country-cert-request/

Doesn't look like the EU cert is really required anymore for any of the countries I will be visiting this year but as I happen to have an Irish passport I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a go. Generated an AU Intl cert in MyGov with my Irish passport details using the "dual passports" feature, filled in the form yesterday and received the EU cert by email this morning. I think the last time I looked into it the Irish process couldn't handle booster doses but this has been updated as the cert I received has the date as that of my third dose and the number of doses listed as "3 / 3". All pretty seamless. I wonder if I'll ever get to use it...

FWIW, currently in Italy (Sardinia) since April 10.
Arrived via Singapore into Milan, various paperwork clutched tightly in hand (international vax certificate from Australia and European passenger locator). Walked up to the automated passport gate, straight through, then an automatic stamp from the nice immigration man. As we had only carry on, straight to and then through the unmanned green channel at customs and into Italy…….
We needed to show our vax certificate to enter Departures for the domestic flight to Cagliari and then again to board the plane. In each case, no problem, they just needed to count the shots, one, two three.
Since the, we’ve been asked to show our vax certificate exactly twice, both times in restaurants. One time, they were a bit flummoxed and called out to the boss that they had an Australian certificate which wouldn’t scan (as everyone here on AFF knows, ours is not compatible with the European standard) who immediately said no problem. The other time was in a country restaurant with very little English, so we were struggling to explain (our Italian is very limited!) so we just showed them the reverse on which we had printed the explanatory letter in Italian published by the Australian embassy that points to the Italian regulations specifying that the certificate meets the rules to be equivalent to the Italian super green pass. We had printed our certificates and the letter on the reverse and laminated it for just this situation.
As to masks, we are supposed to wear them on entering indoors anywhere. Museums etc are enforcing this strictly. Shops somewhat casually but it varies. Restaurants/bars fairly relaxed.
It may be different in other parts of Italy but both in and out of the cities, the above is the situation in Sardinia.

I'm sorry, this is probably not the right place to ask this but it is sort of related. I'm off to Europe in 3 weeks. Into UK with Qantas and out of Amsterdam with Emirates. i know we have to wear masks on the plane but do they have to be N95 masks or just normal surgical masks? I couldn't find any information on the Qantas website about this and I've heard anecdotally that N95's are required for Emirates.
And thanks everyone for the great up to date country by country info about vaccines passes etc.

We have not experienced any checking of masks even where they stipulate N95
Emirates offered free blue surgical type masks on our flights in April.
We’ve just entered Italy after 5 weeks in France. No boarder control at all by train, and no requests for proof of vaccination so far.

Anyone else receive the Smart Traveller email telling them the Green Pass requirement has been dropped in Italy?

Yes, no one seems to be too concerned here anyway.
Yes, got the Smart Traveller email. As usual, DFAT is behind the game. As of 1 May, the Green Pass requirement has been dropped in Italy for most situations. It is still needed for long distance travel, entry to hospitals, aged care facilities etc. but no longer a requirement for restaurants, museums, entertainment facilities and the like. Similarly, mask wearing is pretty much gone too apart from special situations as above. Everyone here seems pretty relaxed about it although occasionally, we still see a restaurant where the staff are masked and they conscientiously wipe everything down.

Yes, DFAT currently has Iran as Do Not Travel "due to the health risks from the COVID-19 pandemic and the significant disruptions to global travel". This has the potential to stuff up my insurance which, in turn, could stuff up my Iranian visa application.

Just an update for Germany.
Had vax cert checked by airline prior to departure (QF/QR).
On arrival at FRA straight through with passport only, didn't ask for any paperwork.
Frankfurt, south to Karlsruhe and across to Strasbourg in France, then back up, over a week and not once for asked for vax cert.

Love Strasbourg!
We’ve been in Switzerland, France and Italy for the past 8 odd weeks and the only obligation we’ve come across on the ground is masks on public transport and some major indoor attractions.

Yes it appears in the areas I've been that public transport is the only place demanding masks, yet isn't really enforced.
We went through the wine trail from Bad Durkheim as well and not a mention of covid out there.
