Article: Qantas Auckland Lounge Upgrade: The End of an Era

Something weird was going on with their office even though they never found a cause.

Personally don't have a problem keeping the call centre workers happy. The AKL call centre is only second to HBA. Obviously the lounge refurb schedule has nothing to do with this.

So was this re-fit out of the call centre space? ( from the post above). Wonder if HBA get cozy lounge chairs?

Yes. NZ HQ is call centre and NZ business travel. I don't think any management of QF gets done from there. Jetconnect ops would be at the airport.

It's a small office, apparently only 40 people.

Havent read the ET (exective traveller) bit, but Reddit links to it that the lounge will close for reno.

It's been confirmed by VH herself.

Plan is to renovate the EK lounge (in progress now), and when QF lounge closes, the EK lounge will take all QF J/F/elites.

Probably ends up better and cheaper than the previous plan of doing it bit by bit.

To accomodate those passengers on Qantas flights, Emirates is expected to extend the opening hours of its Auckland lounge, which is handily located just downstairs from the Qantas lounges.
Seriously ET, 2 errors in the one sentence -:
  1. "accomodate" vs "accommodate"
  2. The Emirates lounge is located just downstairs from the Qantas lounges?

hoping my TT hops this year coincide with use of the EK Lounge, though I must say part of me will miss the F Broom Cupboard, have spent many an hour drinking the wait away in that cozy little cupboard :(

Not before time, how they can call the 'cupboard' a first class lounge is laughable. The EK lounge is great with a good variety of food.

Not too sure if this should be a separate post, I have an upcoming Auckland-Sydney flight next week and four lounge passes burning a hole in my pocket.

The Qantas website is not allowing me to link my lounge pass to the flight, so I called the contact centre today to do this manually. I was advised that the Qantas lounge in Auckland does not accept Qantas lounge pass bookings due to capacity restrictions and that access to the Auckland lounge is limited to Business Class and Qantas Club passengers only.

Quite disappointed in this position given the lounge is still open for business as usual at the time of my flight (i.e. renovations haven't started yet).

Depending on time of day, the existing lounge can be standing room only. That's the whole point of the increase in capacity as part of the renovations.

Lounges often do limit pass usage when they are expected to be busy (eg school holidays) - AKL is just busy all the time.
