Article: Qatar Airways’ Bizarre Daily Melbourne-Adelaide Flight

Sorry for a repeat question, and I think I am not going to like the answer, but if someone wants to get out at MEL, are they prevented from doing so? Is there anyone on this forum who has actual tried it?

Just last week I found rewards availability in J and booked this flight for mid-Feb, with the view that I disembark at MEL and will let the airline know I would not be continuing to ADL... Sounds like I'll have t start looking for alternatives :-(
Did you try it?

Yeah, would be interested if anyone has any experience with this and if you are allowed to leave the Melbourne Airport.

You are indeed allowed to leave the airport. It depends on if you really want to (if you have checked-in bag or not).

In fact I was advised by QR staff that I could leave the airport, and then come back through customs (with my DOH-ADL boarding pass) to catch the last leg of the flight to ADL (for example, if I really wanted to go out for fresh air or something).

Just read all replies but still wondering, we are booked ADL/MELBS/DOHA September. Country people and much more convenient for us to join the flight in Melbourne. Would that work?
I wouldn’t have thought so.
If you don’t check in at ADL then your whole flight would be cancelled.

The majority of passengers got off in MEL, only us ADL people were herded through to the make-shift security then up in a lift to the transit area.

We were served a hot meat pie, and the same again ADL-MEL :)
Hi Voron, I’m a journalist. Would you be willing to share your experience about this? DM me if so please

Best to check directly with Qatar.May be classed as a no show and you loose your ticket.Easier to change your flight ticket to be safe.

This is what I was worried about publicising this. We already have the government not allowing more QR flights (to general annoyance on this forum) and here we have a journalist wanting to make a big deal about existing QR flights most on here would be glad exist. Sometimes just shutting up about these opportunities is the best approach!!

Thanks Jase, I phoned Qatar, they said I would be treated as a no show. Didn't think to ask about changing flight. I booked with points. Will give them another call.

I’m trying to hold the government to account. I’ve invited the minister to please explain herself. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Don’t make assumptions.

You mean the holding to account the Minister for Qantas? Good luck. Last week it was Australian jobs, this week it was "green" reasons, next week national security?

I'd love to hear from anyone who's flown the DOH-ADL flight and endured the Melbourne overnight, especially if it came as a shock. The government has been hopeless at justifying why this is necessary.

It’s necessary because ADL has a curfew so they can’t arrive until the morning
