We've ranked all of the airlines and cabin products available on trans-Tasman routes from best to worst:

Do you agree with our rankings? Why/why not? You can leave a comment or discuss this topic below.

I would mostly agree but would probably rank LATAM higher and would add that they quite regularly use their (excellent!) updated Business class in 1-2-1 configuration which actually feels quite similar to Qantas’ J class product on the wide bodies. Food has also been upgraded on this route with sandwiches etc. making way for proper hot meals. Biggest issue with LATAM is reliability as quite often these flights get cancelled due to technical issues and no replacements in sight down here.

Emirates of course by a million miles outshines all the others and I, like many other regular trans-Tasman travelers, really really miss them flying the SYD-AKL route. Qantas and Virgin in their 737s are just woefully equipped on these routes so very deservedly so in last place.

If I could have some surety of the new product, I'd book it in a heartbeat, if only to try it. I have done it on the old 2-2-2, it's fine but nothing special, so I'd be keen to do it. Is there any pattern to it, that you're aware of?

How I miss those QR tag flights from ADL ☹️☹️

I’d just be happy getting any aircraft that has J from ADL to NZ, even a 737 would be fine
I flew from MEL-AKL just to fly AKL-ADL-DOH in 2023, absolutely loved it!
