When I try via the BA website though, I receive this message:

I've tried using different browsers, changing the cookie settings, and also changed site settings, but no luck.

I wonder if it could be your geolocation blocked based on your IP. Have you tried with a VPN pretending you're in the UK?

Thank you for your response @Revenge - I haven't tried that yet. I would've thought that BA would expect members to be outside of the UK and already have plenty of Australian members.

Yeah I would expect that too but I know (for security reasons I guess) sometimes sites like these are limited by IP. For example, I'm currently living in Canada and can't access my Flybuys account back in Australia without using a VPN.

There's also the (very slim, but still infinitely greater than if sticking with Qantas) possibility I might do enough flying in the next decade that I could hit the BA equivalent of Qantas Lifetime Platinum, ie Lifetime OneWorld Emerald.

I've got a question with BA Lifetime Gold (equivalent of QF Lifetime Platinum). I understand that you need 35k tier points to get this. Usually, for status with BA, you need a minimum number of BA flights to go up the ranks. Theoretically, could you hit BA Lifetime Gold without ever flying BA and crediting all of your OneWorld flights to BA (but never hitting individual Silver and Gold due to the lack of BA flights)? (This may not be practical but it's the way that I read it and would like to be corrected if I've misunderstood it.)

Yeah I think that would work. It would be a hell of a lot easier than getting QF lifetime platinum. You just wouldn't have any status along the way while you're earning it!

The convoluted structure and ties between the Avios airlines and partners makes this a complicated proposition for most people. But it’s arguably one of the most lucrative FFPs right now and we’ll worth taking them time to understand and pursue.

Another way to earn Avios which wasn’t touched on in the article is by simply flying with Qantas, their Oneworld partners and affiliates airlines. The key here is that it must be a QF marketed flight. So that means you could earn Avios points while flying Emirates, KLM, Jetstar, Air Calin and many other partner airlines, as long as it’s marketed by QF (QF flight number).

Is there any easy way, to see what KLM flights are QF marketed ?

Just to be clear, are you saying any QF marketed flight on any partner flight, all you have to do is ensure that your Avios program FFP number, eg BA Exec Club is included, and the relevant number of Avios will show up in my account ? Thanks.

I tried to link my BA and IB accounts but failed miserably.

You need to have the exact same information in each account re personal details (name, DoB, etc), and this can be quite confusing because of the unique Spanish way of documenting given name / surname. I even tried to do a link to my EI account, but also no go.

Best of luck anyway (and it's worth checking on flyertalk, as there's lots of comments about this issue).

My original comments referred to earning Avios and Tier Points with a Qantas marketed and operated flight.

From what I understand (and using the commentary you have quoted from BA), the language suggests you’ll only earn Avios points on QF marketed partner/affiliate flights, and not TPs.

Anyone else able to chime in?

From recent threads-posts in FT BAEC has removed the feature that allowed avios earning on QF marketed - non OW operated flights.

Am trying to move avios to British A linked account...have tried moving about 20k to do a redemption booking on BA
what a nightmare....each transfer gets cancelled...Have tried 500...1000. 20k...Been on 4 live chats with Qatar....still no results..

From where? In my experience these transfers can be very tricky. Everything needs to line up 110% and even then it can fail. Transfers from IB to BA can be particularly troublesome because of the personal name subtleties in Spain and the UK.

I've just given up and no longer bother to try.

Sorry to suggest something obvious but are the names on the two accounts exactly the same? And perhaps even the address etc.

The other think to be very specific with is the account numbers.

I had issues a couple of years back transferring IB>BA.

Turned out this was because my IB number is 000xx_xx_x and I had not input the first three zeros.

You would t think leading zeros would matter, but apparently they do.
