There are exemptions to the Heathrow curfew for "operational needs", there is a limit how many exemptions can be made but Heathrow can choose to allow a flight to depart under some wide ranging criteria. If todays QF2 needs to depart after 2300 I'm sure it wont be an issue.

(which was originally for weather related delays/exceptional circumstances but has morphed into really any issue - BA takes advantage given their regular problems i.e. basic IT stuff ups!)

In the Qantas Delays/Cancellations thread in another AFF section, member Quickstatus has posted a comprehensive explanation of London Heathrow's curfew.

Although like you I suspect the hugely delayed QF1 will when it morphs into QF2 early tomorrow morning English time receive a dispensation, Quickstatus said he wasn't sure.

It can still make it out before curfew

Not correct: it won't be arriving until after 2230, so even if all stops were pulled out, there's no way, being an A380, it could be ready to depart prior to 0030 on Monday morning 19 June. It only took off from SIN five minutes ago as QF1 at 1638 local time on Sunday 18 June bound for London, a 13 hour plus journey.

It would be odd if QF2 wasnt granted dispensation as dispensation is the "norm". I saw the stats pre covid but it was very small number of flights that were denied dispensation.

My view is Heathrow has gotten too generous with the dispensation, but its in their interest to do so I guess - UK Government needs to clamp down as incompetence from airlines now means the citizens of West London needs to deal with the consequences due to poor management and excessive cost cutting!

Sunday 18 June's 2055 hours QF2 has been altered to depart at 0830 hours on Monday 19 from London Heathrow.

While I lack a document that confirms, it appears Qantas was not granted a dispensation.

Interesting, as there is a few BA flights today granted dispensation (BA105 for example departing at midnight!)

BA seemingly has more pull with Heathrow than QF!

I checked the departure of QF1 from Sydney yesterday and it seemed to leave a little bit late but not too bad. So the big delay must have been from Singapore to London. Does anyone know why this happened? Apologies if someone has already advised. I'm going up on QF1 in November and have been looking at its delays.

I think it was a domino effect starting with a 15+ hour delayed departure from LAX (same aircraft VH-OQK):

So I timed it last night… arriving mid-D gates… disembarked (upper deck), to QF J lounge, showered, had a coffee, did DF shopping (just needed one item), back to the gate 33 minutes!

yes, huge lines for security at the gate, but really no need to join this. I just hung around outside doing emails and stuff. There’s a smoking area close by for those who want it. Went through security when there was no queue, and as the holding lounge was almost cleared… they were calling rows 66-80 to board. Went straight on. Departure was fairly quick after that.

If you are in First and heading to the F lounge 25 mins plenty of time to have a shower, grab anything specific from DF you need. If you are in business the lounge is a bit farther away, allow 30 mins if among the first to leave… 40 if towards the last to disembark.

I didn’t walk that quickly, but I was the first to arrive at the J lounge. The only downside is that the shower rooms aren’t air conditioned, so almost no point showering if you just want to ‘refresh’. (If you had been all day in singapore without a shower it might be different!)

We are joining QF1 SYD - SIN tomorrow. Stopping overnight in Singapore at the Crown Plaza. We have not stayed there before.
Hoping the flight is on time. We haven't done this flight in Economy (exit row seats) for many years.
I wonder what type of meal they serve?

I'm flying on QF1 next month - just the SYD-SIN leg (to tick the A380 off the bucket list), and I notice that there's a lot of slack in the schedule. I've seen on FR24 that the flight can leave SYD up to an hour late and still get into SIN either on time or early
