Agree ending in an O or an I is silly - particularly if that is common.

I suspect it might be some form of checksum digit (many credit cards use a form of this) that would enable offline validation using a simple formula.
But If so it seems Hyatt isn't implementing this on its or partners systems.

Simple checksum would be
Account 11111 is actually displayed as 111115 where the last digit is the sum of the numbers dropping any tens. Equally 33334 would become 333346
 
Mine ends with a V.

It is a bit silly having I and O.

Many sports stadia do not designate rows O or I for the reasons expressed. (e.g. MCG)
