At what point do Status benefits kick in?

Hi all,

Ive got a two leg flight (first domestic, second long haul international) coming up. The domestic leg will earn enough SCs to take me to PS.

Obviously I won't have a physical card at that point but will it somehow be in the system before my international flight? (transfer time is 90 minutes.) I'd really like to avail myself of the extra hand luggage and also would like to Mike sure I have the points multiplier for the long haul.

Thanks in advance!

Until the flight that qualifies you for status attain has credited to your account and your new status updates in the system, you're unfortunately not entitled to those status benefits.

You'll be out of luck I'm afraid. The fastest I've had SCs credit has been several hours but usually it's the next day with QF.
A common question (you may or may not have, so I'll answer it anyway) is how you'll be identified as PS on the return flight since you won't have a physical card but you don't need to worry about that as your PS status will appear on your boarding pass and booking (for check-in staff if you wish to use the J check-in).

Welcome to AFF!

Hi dlam,

Welcome to AFF!

I don't think there is extra hand luggage based on status (there *is* on class) - where have you seen this?

Regards,

BD

PS does not give you lounge access, so no problem in getting the status a little bit later.

Extra luggage does not kick in, because you are NB at the start of your journey.

Business-Checkin could be handy on the return flight, but your physical card is not needed.

As the others have noted this won't happen on a connecting itin specially if your international sector is a couple of hours after the domestic.

Sometimes SC's can post within hours, but it's irrelevant anyway because you check in for your connecting flight with your current (Bronze) status and that will apply.

If you were going from Silver to Gold or above, it would only serve for lounge access prior to the international flight (if you are flying in Economy) and the chances of the SC's posting and status updating are very close to zero. In any case you'd need to request them to check in the system if it had gone throuh

but in this situation, Silver benefits won't give you anything extra anyway once you have checked in and in transit. Sorry.

Welcome to AFF...

Status update happens when the SC post apart from some of the higher status levels but PS is very automated

Thanks for your help, everyone. For some reason I had in my head that I'd get extra hand luggage. Oh well. By the time I return to Oz I'll be SG. Something to look forward to at least :)

sure I have the points multiplier for the long haul.

This may or may not work out automatically. The system should work it out when posting, but if the flights are on the same day, and post at the same time, I am not sure if it guarantees to post them in the order they were taken.

*UPDATE*
My long flight, SYD-PVG was credited that very day and took me to PS! However, it took 48 hours for my first, short flight to post (ADL-SYD) and so a rather weird thing has happened on my activity statement. I was given my PS status bonus on the points for ADL-SYD when, in actuality, that short flight should have taken me to PS and the status bonus should have been for the long flight.

Does anyone think this is worth chasing up? It wouldn't make a massive difference but ... points is points ...

Always chase up ... if nothing else it can fe a fun and educational experience.

*UPDATE*

I called the FF service centre and spoke to the lovely Daniella and explained that the status bonus should have been applied to the longer flight but the order was mixed up in the system. Woke up this morning and see that I've been credited an extra 1,300 points.
