ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Had a double win as per last year. Able to circumvent the 1% fee by using Bpay with points posting fine.
 
Whenever I am supplied BPay as a means of payment, I try and pay by credit card. Sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't with Citi thus far paying points when successful. Am supposed to pay a 1% fee for paying by credit card but have been able to avoid using this method for the various policy renewals. Citi treat it as a normal credit card payment.

Are you meaning that you Bpay your insurance for points? That is a great idea if it is not treated as a cash advance.

I had a look and the ATO don't accept credit card Bpay payments according to BPAY - Search

I have never had a CC Bpay treated as a cash advance though have only tried with Citi or NAB cards.
Will always try to pay by BPay using the details providing for bank account payments when I know a company (small to medium size the most success) will accept credit card payments but charge a fee for phone or website payments. My business insurance payments have come up trumps the past two years and able to side step the 1% fees for phone accepted Visa or MC payments.
ATO and NSW government charges are paid via their websites and no way unfortunately around their fees with NSW accepting MC & Visa only.

That's pretty good! Must admit never tried as both my HSBC and WBC Amex specifically said no points earnt using bpay

Are you looking at some option to directly redeem Altitude points for flights? If so, that's not the way to do it - it's never the way to do it, with any credit card rewards program, unless you have no other option. You transfer Altitude points to KrisFlyer, Velocity, Enrich, etc, and book with those.

On an unrelated note, all of this recent (in-thread) talk about Amex-branded Amexes for ATO has reminded me of something I've been meaning to mention: a couple of months back I accidentally paid a small amount of tax on my Amex Plat Edge. The amount of points this transaction earned was... unexpected :-) I keep forgetting to try again - but has anyone else used an Amex-branded Amex card for ATO recently?
 
Based on half a point earn per dollar spend that should mean the ATO spend on an Amex branded Amex card costs 2.9 cents for one whole point which would be a waste of time.
Yes you have to transfer the points to Kris,Velocity or Enrich from Westpac Black Altitude to get the best results from the system watching out for the various dates on points expiring. Warehousing points inside your credit card avoids the points expiring time clock from ticking.
 
Does anyone know if the new Qantas Cash Card gives points if you pay your ATO bill on it?
I had a look at their terms & conditions, but couldn't see anything on there.
 
Any suggestions for paying NSW State Revenue land tax?

To the best of my knowledge none of the SROs take Amex. So, if you don't have another Visa / Master option, your only choice is the Visa/Master that came with your Altitude Black Amex.

Is it still worth using the Black Mastercard after fees or does using Bpay negate the fee? If I sound dim, it's b/c I am when it comes to Bpay using a card...never done this before so sorry if I need it spelt out. :confused:

I'd say it's still worth it, given SRO surcharge is so low (0.33%, IIRC). No idea on the Bpay question, sorry.
 
If you go 0.33% divided by 0.625% for Westpac Black Altitude MasterCard the cost of a net frequent flyer point is 0.5 cents.
If you want Qantas points you could go Woolies EDRCC or Bankwest Platinum for a net frequent flyer point costing 0.33 cents.
