ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Sorry Cove. The writing is clearly on the wall.
Well the fact it has NOT been included in this latest round kind of suggests the writing may be on the wall but its not on the contract. Personally I think the airlines have a fair bit of the power in this conversation.

As one that profits from this arrangement - I'd be very sorry to see it end ...but the end is in sight.

One by one they are either being scrapped or capped.....the end is nigh! Sure the airlines have a product but it's worthless when there are no buyers. The banks hold the stronger hand...

My next Krisflyer statement is due on the 22nd, so will keep you all posted if there is any news - unless someone gets a statement earlier.

How many times have I heard that one, 18 months ago people were predicting the end of US DM share/buy promos and they are still around. Every FF program is going to be devalued according to someone, but if you take their advice you would have missed so much. All good things come to an end, but experience suggests that sometimes that end is further away than you think and we should leverage it while we can.

ATO originally brought in CC payments to help businesses with cash flow and to help facilitate on time payments from small businesses. If the major incentive for businesses to use CC is removed (points earning) by banks it will ultimately affect the ATO.

Personally I think the ATO needs a loyalty program. The more taxes you pay the more benefit you receive in some other area. It makes me sick to look at how much I've paid the ATO in my short lifetime and unlike most I have a choice in what country I want to live/where I want yo pay tax. Cc points are a major drawcard and I'm sure others are in the same position too.

The other big loser are airline loyalty programs. No cc earn = no ability to earn massive amounts of miles = we look at what program is best instead of which has lowest burn rates in premium cabins.

Let's hope other banks don't implement these types of restrictions.... For the airlines' sake!

Lets hope you're correct ... I've grown attached to the lazy few extra million I accumulate every year.

Comparing to US DM or any FF scheme is a dud of a comparison .... the death notice if/when it occurs will have nothing to do with any airline or Gov department.

We're all moving on mass to the next poor choice due to the ever diminishing list of friendly credit cards. With the elimination of every card from the list - the load becomes greater and more detectable for the ones that are left.

Adaptability is the key! IMHO Cove has the best solution for long term earning because bugger all FF's can adopt and implement, ensuring it's survival ... OS issued cards earning ATO points - it's a beautiful thing!

I do hope to move from 3 US cards to 5 this November when I am in Los Angeles for business. Yes I have been delighted with Citi for their US AA cards. I haven't chosen my next card over there as I have been in Sydney until tonight.

It took me some time to figure it out. No not too easy but other AFFers have succeeded and many more are trying. In Sydney this last week I used it to pay for stuff at restaurants and David Jones to run up AA miles seeing the foreign exchange fee is zero. I do have to sign for the goods and services I buy in Australia. Yes AA miles are worth about 2 times a Qantas FF point so getting 0.92/0.93 AA points per Aussie dollar is the good new game.

US unlocked is one way to get a US credit card. I used it for a while.

I am
