ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Just wondering where the info about ANZ card no longer taking ATo payments came from? I can use my anz card until end of Feb though is that right? What card next then? Jetstar?

Jetstar has bitten the dust already.

WOW still works albeit with a tiny cap...

There have been mixed reports about the Jetstar Card. I haven't tried it yet. The BAnk of Melb card works but only at 0.825pts per $ once you get your birthday bonus.

The WOW card still earns 2500 QF points on the first $2500 and then half a point per dollar after that so it does still work uncapped. So if you have $5000 to pay to ATO in your card month you will get 3750 QF points for $21. Based on the fact you already have that card it is not that poor.

Hi Cove,
Would you agree that the Westpac Kris Flyer Amex is the best bang for your buck when paying ATO bills? I am still currently getting 1.25 miles per $. I don't know of any better or even equal card for ATO. Unfortunately it is no longer available to new applicants. Also, what does the WOW card stand for?

WOW is the Woolworths credit card.
There is the more common QF point-earning version but also one that is essentially a cashback card.
The latter would not make much sense for ATO
I have the cashback one but only for the free giftcard and balance transfer offer

I was covering the Woolworths Money Visa Platinum cc which I think is administered by Macquarie Bank. Now they are Qantas points.
Yes I enjoy Westpac Kris Flyer Platinum for international travel with Singapore Airlines. Their product is excellent. This card is no longer issued to new applicants and we have three in our family group and my partners have this card as well.

By later this year:
KF Platinum Amex the most Bang
Kf Platinum Visa most bank for buck

Lets hope it lasts

ANZ Black is up there but finishing on 26/02. Amex version runs 1.5 Qantas points per dollar for a short while longer.

In today's mail I received a Westpac Kris Flyer cc statement and it is due for payment tomorrow.....
I have to tell you I wasn't impressed with a bank combining with a broken Australia Post to give me 24 hours......
Well it is paid but I am wondering how many folks will get caught with delayed mail.
Lucky I can pay it electronically in a couple of minutes to qualify for a J flight or Suites flight to somewhere.

But, Cove, what are you doing getting any of your (numerous) cc statements by snail mail :confused::p.

I won't be in the future JohnM.
The donkey who gets paid to run Australia Post has made me certain that snail mail is just too unreliable to use.
That particular cc has a large credit limit so it could be quite costly to miss a monthly clearing payment.
I think I will use a few CCs to pay the ATO in the next 8 weeks as there will be the quarterlies and two of the monthly BAS returns. ANZ,Westpac,Bankwest, QCU and US CCs are all possibilities.

Wow this thread is amazingly long! I went back about 20 pages to understand it all, but its so interesting! How did this thread get to 576 pages, is beyond me :o

cove just to confirm my understanding, for ATO:
- Westpac KrisFlyer, Bankwest Platinum and Qantas Credit Union (any QCU card) - they are ok to earn points
- ANZ is only good until end of February

The only question I had is - is Westpac Black ok to earn points on ATO purchases?

On Westpac Amex Black you get 0.75 Kris Miles at a cost of 1.93 cents per mile. You can warehouse the miles to avoid expiry.

sorry for the off topic. Would it be better to purchase velocity points at 1c/point ( from ozbargain or something ) ?

Wherever you can gather your points/miles at the lowest cost and then redeem for the highest perceived value in your eyes is clearly the winner. Just do what's good for you and don't bother using your hard earned points/miles on a an economy seat that you can buy super cheap for cash.

No standard deal that offers that in an unlimited way AFAIK ( CC sign-ups exceed this frequently of course)

Not sure if I missed it, I know someone mentioned it months ago, but can't find it now. There was talk of the basic Velocity Escape card from Amex not being tarred with the same brush that affected the lower earn rate of the rest of the Amex issued cards for ATO payments, and from what I can see on Amex website, this seems to be true. Has anyone actually got an Amex Velocity Escape card and paid ATO and received 1 FF point per $? Based on my calcs, that results in about 1.45c per virgin FF point, which isn't all that great, but seeing as all the other options seem to be dying out, may be better than nothing.

Seems to also be the case for the Qantas Discovery card as well.
