ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Yes, I can't think of any Cards off the top of my head on Visa/MC that earn 1:1 or even 0.75:1 for Virgin (and in turn Kris flyer , the best thing that's happened to the points game for Australians in a long time). A few of the lower end Amex cards pay 1:1, but with the 1.45% surcharge, makes buying them for 1.45c a bit of a waste. The three which spring to mind are the Disco, Escape and B.Acc cards. The DJ card "earns" 1:1, but it uses a different points valuation, and it's best use is for SPG.

I didnt know B Acc paid 1:1 (and I have one). Time to start investigating

Amex site says 0.5 for government bodies with B Acc-was yours a grandfathered deal?

For those deep thinkers with ANZ Black cards you could pay extra ATO on your Cards (and not ask for a refund) seeing the card stops paying frequent flyer points after Feb 26th. I plan to stop around Feb 24th as sometimes there can be a processing delay.
I would not bother if I had to pay a lot of interest by borrowing the money to pre pay or if your next ATO bill is months away.

My Activity Statement is due for payment on 21st Feb - I think I might be turning into one of those law-abiding citizens sumthinfornuffin was talking about in #5887, as well as being one of cove's deep thinkers.

Also if you happen to be an upright law abiding citizen who is concerned about the state of the Federal deficit you could be magnaminous and pay your future tax liability in advance as well !!!

Never let it be said I don't practice what I preach. All GST and PAYG paid for BAS quarter # 3, hope Malcolm appreciates the inflow into the Federal coffers before the ANZ QF Black C/C stops paying points in a fortnight, he can wait for # 4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm stuck with a non-earning card (CBA Diamond). Given a need to maintain a good credit rating at the moment I don't want to apply for any other cards (particularly as I'm sure all decent earning options will disappear with time.)

If I BPay via my card, other than not earning points, is there any downside. Will it be treated as a cash advance and subject to interest payments immediately? Or can I use the interest free period to claim a moral (albeit small) victory over one of the Big 4.

If you find a way to Bpay ATO with your credit card please let us know :)

Quick question: Can a typical worker claim the cc fee for paying in advance part of their tax?

Credit used shall be an amex issued card brand new (with spend already on it).

Tried attaching an ato "can't claim" faq screenshot, but can't.

This was considered a while back on this thread, and the conclusion reached was: no, the cc processing fee is not deductible for a normal salaried taxpayer. There was one exception, which applied if you put your card in credit then paid the ATO, so you were not borrowing funds from the card issuer. One of the posts up thread on this is here:

Since then the ATO guidelines have been altered, but IIRC this did not change the conclusion reached above.

do we still earn 1.5 points per $ if we use the Amex cc on ANZ QFF Black to pay the ATO

I read somewhere that Amex only earns 0.5 points now

I haven't found it in the T&C :/

Mqrko that ANZ Black Amex works at 1.5 Qantas points per dollar on transactions completed by Feb 26th. Then on Feb 27th it changes to zero points earned per dollar I believe. ANZ have given everyone 3 months notice of the change so that is pretty reasonable but many folks do not read these change notices
Any processing delay could mean you should probably do your last transaction a couple of days earlier than Feb 26th as the loss of that difference in points earn could be upsetting.

I knew about the changes but I was not sure if it still works for Amex because I read in another that Amex is changing its earning rate to 0.5 with ATO so I was a bit confused.

Is there a master list of cards that pay points for ATO payments? It's a looooong troll through all the pages of this thread otherwise.

Am pretty sure someone tried this in the past but realised it was too hard to keep it up to date!

And would note that as things change, probably only last 10 pages of the thread are relevant anyway.
