ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Keep trying. It took me 3 goes but I was successful only a few weeks ago
Just made my 5th call to Amex and got an Aussie call centre. Rebecca confirmed that you can definitely combine the Gateway into Ascent but it must be the Explorer Personal card. Unfortunately it cannot be done with the Explorer Business card ☹️ Which is what I have........Doh!

Bugger Was hoping to get the business card to replace my westpac altitude business .....might have to redo the calculations....again !!!! Grrrrr

So I've done a check here but have AMEX business rewards card now - am I right in thinking .5 in the $ for ATO payments (plus the hefty charges?)
And I wont get the 100,000 sign on benefit as I already have the personal AMEX card :(

You can apply for the Amex Explorer Personal card as they will allow this card to be used for business expenses. Then if you have the Amex Platinum Edge as well, you can combine Gateway into Ascent for both cards effectively netting 2 (proper) FF miles per dollar for the Explorer card.

Unfortunately Yes and Yes.

Is anyone currently having problems using MrHyde's (superb) macro? It was working well for me since ít was posted in this thread, but in the last few days it has stopped working and now gives me this message: BadParameter: Unsupported variable !VAR4, line: 6

I can''t work out what has changed to make it no longer work.

NC

I haven't used it recently - but I can have a quick look at it. Can you send me the exact script that you are trying to run by PM. From memory, VAR4 is the fourth set of numbers on the gift card.

I can confirm the macro is not working. I can replicate the issue with the same error. I don't have much time this week to look into this, but will try. In the meantime, if anyone else finds the issue and fixes it; please post it here.

well i suppose we all knew it was coming...........eventually.............personally we haven't flown Intl Y since the inception of this thread. will just have to wait and see what Amex offers with any new cards and determine which is the best one for ATO spend.

Direct branded Amex cards generally pay 0.5 points per dollar so the cost of points is 2.9 cents.

Just back in Perth tonight. We did enjoy Kris Miles getting home from London. We each had 2 Suites with one for sleeping and the other for dining and movies.
Now Dragon is working GMOH. Not sure about the bonus system as I spent way more than the minimum in the starting of that card.

Just getting ready to pay some ATO. I was having to change 2 of my credit card wallets around to have the correct CCs to pay the fiscal fiend by 21st of this month. The quarterlies are mostly Feb 28th so I should be able to fix this January impost in about 30 minutes.
I can still get Qantas, Virgin and Kris Flyer benefits so I still look forward to handling the fiscal fiend on time.

By my calculations paying the fiscal fiend is more efficient via Explorer linked to Ascent program using Rewardpay. 2 points per $ at cost of 2.2% which is tax deductible.

I think the Point Hacks site says 2.4%. Has it changed to 2.2%?
My Amex Ultimate (which I don't use for ATO) earns 1.5 points on some but not all transactions.
I used Amex Ultimate extensively before it was enhanced.
My favourite CC earns at a cost that is a fraction of the top line number I listed.

still 2.4%+GST.
I think the dragon is better value but not by much.

though comes down to what you can claim ;)

Just loaded the dragon up a minute ago and was thinking what in the world I should use for the rest.....

hmm, i tried re-recording it and everything looks spot on between yours and my new recording.

But I tried running the newly recorded version with 100% hard-coded details (no vars) and it seemed to go through fine.

will add vars back in 1 by 1 and see what happens

EDIT:
ha! figured it out!
its not the code or the website. ;)
the imacros guys have put a limit on how many variables you can have in the free browser add-on version, looks like the limit is 3.
so edit the code to only use var1,2 & 3, 1 & 2 are commented out anyway.
So replace VAR3 with VAR1 everywhere in the code, VAR4 with VAR2 and 5 with 3 respectively, then it will work 100% again :D

saving the macro to a file is also not permitted anymore in the free version, nor is reading data in externally from a file.
As I was trying to modify some code to search Singapore airlines for a whole year automatically in J on points (need to buy the $99 personal version it seems)

Used three of my CCs and one of Mrscove’s and all wrapped up in 30 minutes. Next month has quarterlies so that will take quite a bit longer as there are almost a dozen tax bills.
