ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Ouch. At 0.7% for MC, I think this is the end of the line for the Perth card for me. Unless I have huge amounts to pay, running a few 1 point per $ cards through EBP at 0.8% up to their cap should provide plenty of QF points. I don't have to pay as much as Cove though.

The Dragon will stay in the game at 0.78%. While 1 VA point per $ @ 0.8% is tempting, that will only net 0.65 KF points which remains the main game for me.

I thought dragon could do KF or thats changed?

1,000 Amplify Points* = 500 Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles
1,000 Amplify Points* = 500 Malaysia Airlines Enrich points
1,000 Amplify Points* = 500 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points

So yes it would not make sense to go StG > VA > KF

I had sometimes gone Amex > VA > KF when Amex had a transfer rate bonus greater than the trasfer loss from VA to KF. The reduced VA to KF transfer rate make that less likely.

Go dragon to Kris directly and you get 0.825 miles for a cost of 0.78 % if you stay for the birthday bonus. You can warehouse to avoid expiry but remember the points showing halve as they transfer to miles.

No changes for me with the cards that I use still earning points with the ATO.

There are heaps of these 'payment facilitation' businesses springing up now. My impression is they only make money if they get a decent amount of volume through on small margins. I'd imagine EBP works the same way. I thought that these services sprung up with the blessing of the card issuers to promote these usually lower/no earn payment categories. I recall Amex heavily promoted RewardPay when it launched - presumably as it got a decent merchant fee (vs the likely small fee from ATO direct which made it unprofitable to offer full points earn) 2.64% is high for me personally unless getting a tax benefit and 2 points/$. Perhaps the revenue on MC/Visa is capped and not profitable in the same way as it currently is for Amex.

If we can no longer buy our points in this way, then the days are numbered for these 'payment' businesses.

For the AMEX based services maybe, but I suspect this is as simple as a merchant processing payments for a fee (in this case 0.8%), which comes with all sorts of risks. What is the barrier to entry for this business? Seems to me it is qualifying as a merchant and setting up a basic web interface. Mind you, the hardest part is convincing your customers that www.illpayyourbillsipromise.com is legit.

I agree trust is an issue many of us might not have thought sufficiently thoroughly about before signing up.

Do chargebacks offer protection to dudded card holders?

I havent had any Flybuys for anything since 25 Feb

I haven't used my Coles MC for a while. I recall that logging into the FB site, would show points posting as the transaction cleared. Is this still the case with the transfer to Citi as issuer or has Citi changed it to monthly points credit without itemisation which is the case with their other cards?

It was posting the previous days clearances until 25th Feb. Don't recall a terms change. Have enquired

Thanks for letting us know. Hope this avenue stays open for some time to come - esp as it's breathed new life into fiscal donations.

The biggest barrier to entry is probably getting a good fraud detection system, given how thin your margins are you really can't afford to lose money due to fraud.

@ferni can I get a PM too? Looking to do some Amex spending before the April devaluation deadline....

I've looked through the threads, but can't work out the 1.95% AMEX fee. Is it actually a thing? Could somebody please PM me if it is, or steer me in the right direction?
