ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I received an email from Sniip: "We're Updating our Terms"

To cut though the obfuscation, Sniip are revising their fees for "Business card Amex payments" from 15th October - looks like they are similar toB2BPay.

American Express Business payments

Transaction amount Processing fee
$0 – $99,999 2.42 (2.20% + GST)
$100,000 – $299,999 2.37% (2.15% + GST)
$300,000 – $499,999 2.30% (2.09% + GST)
$500,000 – $999,999 2.24% (2.04% + GST)
+$1,000,000 2.12% (1.93% + GST)

B2BPay may now be better if you are into Qantas points due to their partnership with Qantas Business Rewards.
Seems there have been some adjustments. I recieved a subsequent email today:

Code:

How do we know if we're making a "business" payment? When you make a BPay payment, it is to a "business". How can they differentiate between payments you make for your "business" vs "personally"? Would you just need to keep a "personal" account rather than open a "business" account? Have I missed something?

Otherwise, isn't this an increase in the fee from 1.5% to 2.2%?

Don't use an Amex business charge card. Use the personal charge card then you just pay the 1.5% incl GST

Edit: I tried a dummy ATO payment into my company CRN and it came up as 1.5% incl GST

I have been trying to research that - to no avail.

It could simply be based the type of AMEX used.
Their FAQ are not super clear, but it sounds like they at least partly infer from the biller? It will show you the fee rate and dollar amount before you submit, anyway.

You can tell a card's type from the 'BIN' (basically, the beginning of the card number). Different types of cards start with different numbers. For AMEX, it's 37 at the beginning, then after that it varies depending on the type, category and nature of each card. Business cards would have certain 'BIN's, and Sniip would then just set a different fee for those cards versus all other AMEX numbers. It's the same way that other billers can determine which cards are basic / premium / super premium / International etc to charge different fees. 😊

Made an ATO payment today for my business using personal Amex charge card. Was charged 1.5% on sniip

I’ve had a $2,000 payment through Beem to the ATO last week go missing. They are tracing with BPAY but I’m holding off on more payments for now.

Just as I was about to do a charge-back, I got a response to my escalated complaint. No luck with the tracing the payment yet but they have offered an interim solution which I am happy with and I will update if it comes through.

So the conclusion to this little sage is that once I escalated my complaint Beem offered to pay me the $2,000 with my agreement that I would repay it once the payment showed up, which I accepted.

I did ask them to send me the Bpay reference number etc so I could follow up with the ATO and see if I could expedite things but they didn't respond to that. It seems they dealt with the ATO in the background and the payment has now been credited to my ATO account with a "processed date" 30 days after the "effective date".

I have now repaid the $2,000 to Beem so it is all now sorted.

Not a great thing to happen but it worked out in the end, although it did take some time and about 15 emails back and forth to get it resolved. I give Beem credit for managing it well once I got past the first-level support.

Regardless Sniip will still have the lowest fees as far as I can tell? Not sure somewhere is better than 2% for normal amounts (maybe 5-50k bas)

Has anyone had issues with Beem lately?
I have a card stored that I last used just over 6 months ago. Putting through payment yesterday (and tried again today). Needed to "verify payment", clicked on the link and it has "internal server error".
Worth a call?
