I for one would like decent aircraft like a 747 and prices on the SYD/HNL/SYD route, currently its a joke.
787 would work perfectly for that route. Oh, wait.
It might be a silver and orange one?
SIN airport has never done it for me, the carpet makes it look like a cheap casino

What about QR/DOH instead of EK/DXB, albeit it could get confusing with QF codeshares on QR services. They seem too to have a strong European presence, but unlike EK they don't at the moment have a big number of services to/from Australia that already feed services at their hub.

Could you justify a 747 on that route?
What about RJ though Amman. RJ are already OneWorld and offer a reasonble service to the middle east, Europe and parts of Africa and will be getting a new terminal in Amman sometime soon.
Trouble with AMM is it is a lot further than DOH, from SYD (another 1000 miles). SYD-AMM is very long, around the distance of SIN-LAX (second longest commercial scheduled flight). Hard to see it being economical on the highly competitive European services.
You have to feel sorry for the BAEC members flying out here in F via BKK......going to get quite a shock when they walk on the QF sector!
A cursory look at BA.com would suggest that if you're booking LHR-SYD in F you'll get routed via SIN or HKG.
Agree with sentiments about QF dropping BKK/HKG-LHR. Now coughpy connections timings to BA via BKK.
However don't get the issues against the A330. Only thing j can think of us no exclusive J upper deck, but what else.
To maximize aircraft utilization what about add on routes like PER-BKK-HKG and make most of 5th freedom rights BKK-HKG.
What about using AY as a codeshare partner into non UK Europe instead of LHR and BA. From SIN/HKG/BKK connect to AY to HEL, opening up fast and efficient connections to PAR/ARN/FCO/PRG etc.
dajop said:As much as people b#!% and moan about the lack of decent BKK connections service, isn't obvious that BKK origin/destination traffic in premium cabins don't support service via BKK? People flying on QF services are not just flying to Europe, some actually fly to/from Asia as well. That's why SIN works, and HKG surely would as well. But BKK isn't full of bankers like SIN and HKG, which I am sure is important for both Europe (LHR) and Australia (SYD) bound aircraft.
(I refuse to count the UA 747 as premium - or have they upgraded that considerably?)
I agree - that is a clever way of positing QFi to make the most of the growth of Asia. SIN-HKG is a huge route - only premium carriers flying direct are SQ and CX from memory (I refuse to count the UA 747 as premium - or have they upgraded that considerably?). I'd use it! HKG and SIN are the two most economically important cities in Asia, after all. They could even consider SIN-PVG or SIN-Vietnam perhaps; I'd definitely take QF metal to Vietnam via SIN rather than Vietnam Airlines direct. Come to think of it PER-SIN-CGK isn't a bad idea either..

Upgraded to a 738 and operates at a premium time as well. Departs SIN at 05:15, (am that is), arrrives in SIN at 00:35:
I have read some of the previous posts. Perhaps QFi could have some of the smaller planes from the smaller ports PER,ADL,BNE and larger planes from SYD/MEL converge in BKK or HKG and then have A380's that operate between LHR and one of German ports of FRA/HAM/TXL/MUC/DUS. For the flights in Germany/LHR they could try to better utilise their partners for onward flights around continental Europe. Airberlin has just joined OW and I know QFi has codeshares with non OW airlines it could further tap into.
C'mon QFi you got to think a bit creatively...
