VA Platinum? Do you really need it? I cannot see what it could possibly offer over Gold other than some extra Velocity points.

Don't you have to pay an arm and a leg to book into the right class? Of course if you are already paying for business class then this is a bonus but if you buying best fare of the day then a waste of time. I am letting my 4 complimentary upgrades lapse unless I could use that offer for flights months in advance and after I drop from Platinum.

I can see no reason why you can't use them months in advance. I got one of mine coming up in September that I booked in June.

The reason for my trip to AKL is to see Butterfly Boucher/Missy Higgins on the 6th and the +1 has fallen through. I now have a spare ticket if any Kiwi/impulsive Aussie wants to go? It is the centre of row E so very close to the stage. Only catch is sitting next to me for the concert. PM me and I will toss a coin if more than one reply. The ticket was NZD 50 if you feel obliged to reimburse me.

Unfortunately the AFFer who was going to use the ticket has had to pull out at the last minute. If anyone is in AKL and would like to see Missy et al drop me a PM.

And $229 is the cheapest flexi for SYD-BNE so it would cost just over $900 for 2 return flights to use the 4 complimentary upgrades. Hmmm....

They are confirm or not at time of request - Q class needs to be available, H class is indicative, but I have more recently called to ensure it is before completing a booking and while still on the call finalising it and upgrading immediately.

Note that a Velocity WP would earn over 9000 velocity points and 80 SC's for those tow r/t's.

However, one is better off using them for 332 PER journeys ... the flexi fare is ~$320 but the upgrade to business service is very very nice ...

Nup - it's a PoP!

Suss out your preferred flights - start the booking process online - select your preferred flight and enter all details put don't complete the booking - call Velocity and ask if you can upgrade in the flight you have selected - if they say yes, complete the booking, quote the resultant PNR and bingo -in in 10 to 240 minutes you'll get an e-ticket showing business.

You can take n odd-on punt and if you can ascertain H class (award availability) for a flight, then Q class should exist.

In any case you still need to call to apply the upgrade.
