It seems quite ambiguous, does anyone have any current confirmation as to whether an Australian government emergency service photo ID will be accepted in US Hiltons for the US Govt on duty travel rate? Or is it strictly US govt ID only? I'll be travelling with family and want to get 2 rooms so they can enjoy themselves while I do some work visits.

I always travel with mine but have never been asked for it in the USA.
Asked once in Australia.

Do OLCI and select digital key option and you’ll be fine.
