"Australia? ..... Never Heard of It"

I'm still amazed so many Americans have heard of Austria though. Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France... that would be about it. Spain I guess. They mix Switzerland with Sweden all the time too. Actually a lot of Aussies do that as well.
 
A few years ago, in a US restaurant

Waitress: Where are you from?
Us: Australia
Waitress: Oh I want to go there one day! You know, the alps and the mountains, just like Heidi.
Me: Thats Austria.
When in Austria, I've seen tourist T-Shirts for sale which have a circle with a line through it on top of a kangaroo, and the printed words of "There are no kangaroos in Austria".

I guess they have the same problem.
