Not sure what the farce is. The Vics have always lost their grounds when the AFL season starts and test players often miss Shield games
I was more referring to the fact that what should be the highlight of the domestic season is played while our test players are absent. I am guessing the Big Bash downtime has played a role. I was a bit surprised to read that the finals were introduced 1982/83-didn't think it was that long ago and I feel it has led to a lot of games where the top ranked side looks to grind things out.I think that the Sheffield Shield can't be played on their home ground due to the AFL is the main reason.
Maybe because I am in NSW but there seemed to be absolute minimum promotion of the game
