Australian Cricket Season 2024-2025

The SACA bean counters would be most displeased but luckily it wasn’t worse
Yes they have lost a tonne of revenue and if our quicks could have kept their feet behind the popping crease it might have been over halfway through session 6.

But what gives? Neither of the pitches so far have been mof_'s, there's been some runs available and, for ADL, the night conditions were hardly a factor (India did lose 5-fer on Day 2 night but they were also bowled out in the first two 'day' sessions on Day 1, and AUS lost only the one wicket during the Day 1 night).

The bowling has been terrific - maybe they're in the ascendency. Batsmen not disciplined/patient enough?

If only 15 overs were bowled today then SACA has to refund everyone that had tickets a refund. That dropped catch by Carey probably saved the SACA and made sure we got past 15 overs.
Pink ball was a massive factor in this test. Swings for a lot longer and even with the old ball it hooped around. Pitch was a little quicker and bouncier than normal though for Adelaide which caused issues

Selectors should have known that and left out Lyon and played Neser. Starc certainly swung it more and more often than the others who seemed to be looking for movement off the pitch (eg coughmins to Rohit). But India bowled too short and too wide - easy leave - to make best use of the pink ball. Do any pitches 'play like they used to' anymore?

Visiting teams have left out spinners in pink ball tests (Jack Leach in the 21/22 Ashes was the big omission) - and have constantly been hammered as they don't have someone to hold up an end. Adelaide is still a decent enough batting wicket - India largely got themselves out, although there was good bowling in the mix of course.

coughmins isn't generally a swing bowler - he bowls with a proper scramble, sometimes even a three-quarter seam, looking for nibble. He'll sometimes get greedy and go for inswing to pads though.

Bigger thing with coughmins is his length - he's consistently shorter than Starc - he's not as tall, and his bowling action isn't as high nor as well built for swing bowling. Starc can afford to pitch up more due to his height

I think it was close to record attendance even over the 2.25 days of cricket, for AUSvIND at Adelaide? Their rev wasn't too bad with 100k over the first 2 days, surely.

Pink ball always swings a lot for the first bit, but I didn't think anyone bar Starc swung the ball beyond ~20 overs. Australia bowled better, and their bats were willing to leave a lot more than India.

Yes, record attendance for India.
Probably would’ve had close to 50k again yesterday if it went the whole day and already close to 30k tickets sold for today plus the lucrative hospitality.
India batted exceptionally poor in the first innings and the game would’ve looked completely different if Labuschagne and/or McSweeney hadn’t made it through the first night. That was an extremely tough session to bat.
As to the pitch, it’s not an exact science and I caught up with the curator on Friday morning and he was a tad worried that with the rain and humidity around they had covered the pitch for longer than they had planned and might lead to some sweating

Good result for Australia, but not great for the game when it finishes before lunch on day 3.
Of the 7 day night matches played in Adelaide, 3 have ended in 3 days. A further 3 have completed within 4 days. The Aus Cricketers Players Association hold an SA players function (for first class cricketers, men and women) during the Adelaide test. It is always booked out and very well attended. This year it was held on the 4th day, last night they decided to cancel it. Cynically wondering if they played the odds. Players were very much looking forward to it.

Attended our annual Test match brunch for Adelaide Uni Cricket Teams yesterday. These two attend every year along with Maxwell but who is sick. They are very different here compared with their appearance later on TV. The pink ball tests are not appreciated, let's say. Lots of reminiscing about Phillip Hughes and also, Ian Redpath. And lots of stirring about the NSW dominance in test selections.

My Uber driver to golf this morning said that his mates had got a corporate hospo box for today (day 4) and were not getting a refund. Doesn't sound right, or even fair, to me. He wasn't sure if they could go anyway and get their days worth of food/drinks.

@Pushka - I had a beer with a few Royal Adelaide GC members after a game there on Saturday morning and one of them invited me to tag along to that! I declined but sounded like it'd be a good event.
