I think they recognised McSweeney's selection was an error. As an opener especially.
And those with credit in the bank will always get more leeway than a newbie.

The Australian sectors run to their own beat. Always. State selectors are no better. Players learn to deal with irrational decisions but never forget them. Worse is when you learn of your dumping through the media. They are quick to telephone players with good news of selection and they love the headline ‘x selector called me with the news and I told Mum who broke into tears’ but never call them with bad news. Even the commentators when not acting in an official capacity acknowledge the continual selection of NSW cricketers. To replace Marsh they will select someone who can also bowl.

Opening with McSweeney just wasn’t fair. But behind the scenes the media always wanted Konstas.

Completely agree. Strange decision.

Anyone been following the SCG results in the Shield? Has it been spinning much?

If so, which spinner comes in to replace Marsh? Is there even a spinning all rounder (other than once in a blue moon Ashton Agar ) who put together decent results in the first half of the season? Note: Head is not a Test quality spinner and neither is Maxwell.

SCG hasn’t taken spin for years. The old SGC deck is long gone.
If they did decide to play 2 spinners which I doubt then probably Murphy is next in line.

Starc is carrying an injury and Head shouldn’t have played this test but a couple more days rest and he should be ok
