Australian Cricket Season 2024-2025

Been annoying me for ages. Why is is that India are allowed an extra 6 men outside the boundary to field the ball after a 4/6 saving the fielder from bothering to run for it? Surely ICB should restrict handling the ball to selected onfield players?
Why?

9/176

No one’s in front
But India batting first placed them ahead
Bowling and aching means first mover advantage is to the other team

Clearly not to me! If the rules don't stop it then that's it! Not as though Australia has a good reputation with handling the ball. I don't even see how it could be policed. Cricketers have always tossed the ball around and as long as it isn't a deliberate hard throw to the ground then 🤷‍♀️

And nothing to stop Australia doing the same.

Let’s give the onfield players chairs then to save their energy and let off field people field the balls.

I saw one today where the off field helper picked the ball up about 15 cm inside the boundary so technically the ball never reached the boundary rope.

Then that should have been called out by the umpires as an obstruction. And that is an entirely different thing to what you were describing.

However on the point about players being treated with kid gloves, yes, eg their ability to get drinks out of usual drinks times is way different when partner played cricket. Even in the hottest of conditions drinks were only allowed in the drinks session regardless of the temperature which is of course, ridiculous. And then we have Steve Smith with his gloves. Watch that next innings. But the Cricketers Association has become quite powerful (thanks Tim May) and players can assert themselves much more. And get paid for their work.

An obstruction by whom for whom. Indian on field player didn’t bother to run to cut off the four, and Indian helper fielded the ball inside the field. Should never be allowed that off field helpers handle the ball. That’s the job of the selected on field players.

We can't chase more than about 180!! Khawaja and Head really have to step up in the 2nd innings!

There are many instances where a boundary is given even though the ball doesn't touch it.

This malarky where a player fields the ball then touches the rope/padding, and a boundary s given, should be stopped. If the ball doesn't touch the rope it's not a boundary, I reckon.

It'd speed up the game a little and possibly make the game a little safer.

Same with sixes. If a player catches the ball after starting from the field of play, it hasn't cleared the fence regardless of where he lands, so it's out.

I think I saw that incident last night on replay. I don't understand the connection between 'give the on field players chairs then to save their energy' and a random and approved oval staff member fielding the ball that was going for four well ahead of the player. There was no cheating involved and the staff member likely just wanted a bit of the action and touch the ball. Maybe those were their instructions from the CA. All it did was save time and the time it's taking these days with interruptions etc then surely this is good.
