I switched my carrier to Optus at the airport as I was leaving for Europe where I am now.

The 4Gb of global roaming included in my plan is excellent and has worked in all countries I've visited without any problems at all.

I use the Optus account on my esim and have a 3mobile SIM inserted in my phone. Before the esim I used a pocket wifi device. I've used 3mobile for a number of years and will continue to buy one of these before each trip. It takes about three to four weeks to arrive by mail and I've never had a problem. Highly recommended.

You should be able to use the same 3 SIM and just top it up or use Sim Corner - I lend my 3 SIM to anyone going to the UK or Europe and have been able to keep the same number for years

This makes my Vodafone plan look better than ever.

Personally I think the Optus plan looks bloody good

$40/month for 80 GB data (OZ), unlimited international caling (Oz) annd then 4 GB Roaming, Unlimited talk and text roaming in Level 1 countries. I guess it depends where you want to use roaming but it covers all the places I'm planning to go for the next year.
Looks like this deal has changed for rroaming data
NOW 45$

I similarly do this with my Vodafone NL sim - good for longer trips away, but for a short trip I simply leave my Vodafone AU sim as the active sim.

The Optus $45/100GB local/4GB roaming offer also has 12,000 FlyBuys points available if you received a targeted offer by email from FlyBuys.

Email subject “Hurry, collect up to 25,000 BONUS POINTS with Optus’ hottest offers”

My partner switched to Optus on the $50 plan in June but scored the discounted rate of $40 (for 24 mths). Significant saving over the daily $5 with Vodafone and no 90 day limit.

I switched over late July but at the sticker price of $50 p/mth. We’ve both used it extensively the last month or so.

I noticed that all good things come to an end. At the start of August, Optus have jacked the price to $59 and lowered international data to 2GB for new signups.

Yep, spewing I did not get this deal when it was $40! But then again, haven't been overseas the last few months to take advantage of it!

I have expressed my displeasure at more than one Telstra store. Unfortunately I need the Telstra coverage in AU so it difficult to move elsewhere. Hopefully they won't move me off my current plan until I get back from o/s later this year.
Do you have a dual SIM (eSIM) phone? There are much better options than $10 per/day!

I'm with Telstra for better coverage in Oz. However, overseas Telstra want to charge an arm and a leg so I get a local Sim...very easy to manage with a Dual Sim phone where I can also keep my Telstra Sim in to receive all those pesky Sms for banking etc...

What coughted me the most with Telstra was sending a single SMS would trigger the $10 daily charge (it used to be 50c a pop).

Are you using a physical local SIM or eSIM? There are some good eSIM deals/apps now and soooo easy with new iPhones.

I have a Samsung 9 that can take 2 physical Sim cards...I bought the phone from Hong Kong as Vodafone, Optus and Telstra actively try and block the sale of Dual Sim phones in Oz for obvious reasons! :(

My next phone will be, but I will use the physical sim slot for my work phone number.

I would rather keep one (personal) number to come and go around the planet as I please.

I've had the go around with Telstra on this issue too. So after being with them since 1997 I am heading to Optus. Apparently they think we all only live and work in Australia. How bloody stupid of them...another $199 a month customer lost..

With Telstra were you getting the 1GB / month allowance at least?
