Ikea coronavirus: Marsden Park (Sydney) worker positive to COVID-19

An employee at an Ikea distribution centre in Marsden Park in Sydney’s northwest has tested positive to COVID-19.

The news was confirmed by Western Sydney Health Service’s Public Health Unit director Dr Shopna Bag in a letter sent to co-workers earlier this week.
“The staff member was infectious at work on the morning shift on the 6th, 7th and 8th of July 2020,’’ the letter stated

So they had symptoms for quite some days then.

It seems NSW think this spread through Sydney is still under control.

With phase 1 - notify of locations
Phase 2 - after three cases at one location, go for recommendation of requiring 14 day iso and testing of all visitors.
Phase 3?

Still 3 under investigation last I noticed

Phase 3 might not exist (yet) because NSW have been very clear they have no intention of shutting down like Melbourne, ever...

Maybe they had no symptoms? Maybe their location was yet to be identified?
Don’t forget Crossroads was only known about 10th I think
Sure but if there were no symptoms then they couldnt establish the likely infectious days as the incubation between exposure and infection varies greatly.

Perhaps. I just think they worked backwards from when they were deemed to be infected based on where and when they visited. NSW Health now treating this as a 24 hours virus

Agree

NSW haven’t called it Phase 2. It’s just my made up term.

NSW Phase 3 is like Vic Stage 4......yet to Be determined

Bendigo aged care worker has tested positive. Not clear that they are in the existing 3 in the city - but given DHHS says they can't confirm or deny, it must mean they will be included in the stats released tomorrow.

Aged care cases tend to hit the news on the day that the detection is known, even if late in the day. This is due the high risk and need to notify people and take action.

The case numbers announced each day are for the day prior.
ie On the DHHS website it states:
Numbers are correct as of 11.59pm last night but are subject to change as cases are followed up and data is analysed.

So cases detected on Friday will be recorded and announced on Saturday. So if the Bendigo worker's test came back on Friday, it should be part of the numbers announced on Saturday.

Of the existing active cases the ones that I know of are once council worker and three healthcare workers. It was indicated that there had been community spread within Greater Bendigo.

EDITED: VIC 217 new cases, (29 reclassified 188)
2 deaths
I traveller in quarantine.

So 216 effective cases for today.

New Sydney COVID-19 Cluster Found As More Cases Identified

Another COVID-19 case has been linked to a Thai restaurant in western Sydney, bringing the total number of cases in the cluster to three and sparking an urgent warning from health authorities.

Anyone who visited Thai Rock restaurant in Wetherill Park on July 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 has been told to immediately be tested and self-isolate for 14 days, regardless of symptoms.

"Anyone who develops COVID-19 symptoms should also be retested, even if they have had a negative result previously. Everyone must stay in isolation for a full 14 days even if their test is negative," NSW health said in a statement.

"The change in advice is due to the identification of a third case linked to the restaurant, a customer who dined at Thai Rock on 10 July."

This comes after a woman in her 30s from southwest Sydney who worked at the restaurant on those dates was diagnosed with the virus.

ABC were just reporting this new Sydney cluster has grown but they cut across to the VIC announcement so missed the actually number, think it’s now 4 and they can’t trace the source.

NSW has 15, 4 of which are hotel quarantine. Both NSW and VIC upping the testing efforts;

VIC 28,104
NSW 27,702.

And importantly the positivity rate is down markedly. So a lot less cases, despite more tests having been done.

It is the equal lowest rate since Sat 11 July. And before that 0.4% on 8th July. So this is very good news.

But I'd be wary of reading too much into one day's figures. It is great to see a marked decline though.

I'll take any positive news right now. Ah, that's a rather unfortunate turn of phrase in these Covid days 😉.

With Vic I think the number is mainly driven by just who presents on any given day. ie testing is not limited by capacity. Testing locations have multiplied including in regional areas.

ie 37,588 were done on 10 July, and there have been many more testing sites opened since then. So capacity per day would be more. Quickness in getting all results back is another matter of course on days that very large numbers are done.

I agree and I am. There is always a caveat on any one days figures.

Though I am also not just looking at today's figures. Yesterday the unknown community cases was very low despite the record numbers. This quite possibly meant that yesterday's high was in part driven by getting more close contacts tested. That unknown number being low yesterday was good news. The lower positivity rate today is the lowest for many days, and so is again good news. Hopefully it stays lower, gets lower over time.
