Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I think most NSW people would disagree, GB's approval rating is super high, she has done a fantastic job in keeping NSW open to all except Victoria temporarily. NSW residents dont want to be unecessarily locked down.

I dont think GB is whinging, she simply stating the fact that there is no medical basis for Qld being closed to greater Sydney. AP is gleeful in denying access but in the long run its Queenslands tourism economy that suffers when you lock out Sydney which is Australia's largest economy.

The damage is largely done, most people have made their summer travel bookings already and they will be anywhere but Qld and WA because other states and territories have provided certainty and recognised the great job that NSW has done without being closed for business.

Qld is happy for NSW's GST to subsidize it, if GST stayed in the state where it was paid, Qld would be much more willing to let NSW in.

I see no reason why should GB shoudl compliment AP or JY decisions, sucking up wont change a thing.
Most of Australia might think there is no health basis, but the fact the Qld CHO is a doctor and super cautious, makes that a health basis.

It’s not sucking up, it’s taking the time to promote regional NSW tourism.

There is a point that the NSW Premier might come off as too elitist (eg telling others what to do), which can be a turn-off.

Just because JT is a doctor, doesnt mean the decisions she is making are medically based or sound. Looks more like fear based decisions than logical scientific ones,

NSW regional tourism is booming due to the closed borders, there is zero accomdation under $5k on Byron for xmas, new years and early Jan. The tourism ads NSW is running in SA, NT, ACT and Tas (they will run in Vic after the border opens too) is all about our regions and being open for
business. It isnt Queenslanders driving that boom, its those locked out of Queensland.

At same time Qld is squandering its advertising dollars running ads in Sydney and email campaigns to people who cant visit.

I’m a Doctor and I’m having some difficulty understanding the basis.

I have a trip to BNE booked at the end of the month. Flying SYD-BNE. I can apply for a border pass as I don’t live or work in Greater Sydney.
Next Monday I will be flying out of SYD on the QF Birthday flight.
Apparently this means that I’m no longer eligible to enter QLD as I have been in a hot spot within 14 days of arrival. The same hotspot that I can fly to QLD from.
Color me confused 🤷🏼‍♀️

I believe Qld has the normal transit without stopping rule which “should” be applicable to you.

There are many professional fields where not everyone agrees with outliers...judges decision (magistrates).

As someone else on AFF pointed out Sydneysiders are transporting Qld and Vic from Sydney airport to regional NSW for their meetup and back to airport. And all meet quarantine free return requirements...lol

If States really have their contact tracing up to scratch and their isolation proceedures and enforcement right they should not be afraid of the introduction of a few cases of Covid from terrible guests from interstate.
If they do institute bans they are in fact saying they don't trust their systems.

To give you an idea about just how far WA are behind on systems to monitor the spread of the virus (and are now frantically racing to catch up) - they have only just started waste water testing....

How many cases has waste water testing captured in Australia? Perhaps 1 in Qld I think

I believe this is the case for Qld. SA on the other hand did regard a transit as being the same as being in the hotspot. But DYOR.

The date has been announced and that allows people to plan. At this stage no one else except ACT has made that commitment,

And Tassie has just pulled their opening date with VIC forward, cheeky! to Nov 27!

Wants to bank some of the tourism dollars clearly ;)

A weird one for SA. And Victoria. I’m presuming being from Victoria she is in quarantine and exempted traveller but that isn’t stated.

“South Australian authorities say a Melbourne woman has tested positive for coronavirus.

However, they believe she could be shedding virus particles from a previous infection.

She was at Melbourne Central between 2-5pm on November 8 and T4 Melbourne Airport 12-1pm on November 9.

An alert will also be issued at the airport in South Australia and anyone with symptoms or who visited these sites are being urged to get tested as a precaution.

This comes after two other positive tests were picked up in Melburnians yesterday.

Victoria's Health Minister Martin Foley says they are not infectious and are self-isolating while further tests are carried out.

“So, in an abundance of caution, both jurisdictions (Victoria and SA) have decided to align their public health advice this morning,” Mr Foley said.”

That's interesting ... although they did forecast a bringing-forward, last Friday.

So is Tas the first state to have borders open-slather to everyone in Aust and NZ?

Not quite, NSW and ACT will hold that title on Nov 23 - 4 days before Tassie. (Correction: VIC technically never closed their borders)

But there is an imminent announcement from the NT and from SA coming (but SA has not joined the NZ bubble yet).
