My god, a poli with common sense statement!
On the contrary. We have learned that unless tight controls are implemented immediately the situation can very quickly get out of hand. Refer VictoriaI shouldn't laugh but if I don't I will probably cry...we are stuffed as a country. It's like July all over again, months later. We learn nothing in this country.
Contact tracing, which was completely inadequate and amateur hour in Victoria's "second wave" outbreak. On the contrary. We have learned that unless tight controls are implemented immediately the situation can very quickly get out of hand. Refer Victoria
GB is very popular for her commonsense approach to all things Covid. That said, this pragmatic decision to stay open to SA is sure to mean that Qld stays closed to Greater Sydney.
You thought you were getting in? This is just going to give them the final nail for the meeting in a couple of weeks....

what definition of community transmission do they mean?

Lest we forget, the betting in July, August, September & October by many was that Qld would re-open borders the Monday after the state election as they were only closed for 'political reasons' to generate support for the election.Nope as stated nuemrous times on this thread I have neved belived AP has ever had any inetention of letting greater Sydney back in this year, irrespective of whether we get to the 28 days threshold or not. As you say this just gives AP another reason to stay closed.
Guess there wil be some great last minute bargains (or some very empty hotels) for Queenslander, Territorians or Taswegians wanting to holiday in Qld over xmas, as now more last minute cancellations come from SA (afetr all the cancellations already from NSW and Vic).
I guess time will tell. You characterise it as panic, I characterise that as hyperbole. But you are entiltled to your opinion - I dont have to agree with it.You really have to laugh at the extreme panic this “virus” has instilled in some people. What have we learnt? Nothing. Given, after a tiny number of cases in Adelaide, all we’ve heard about today is “closing borders” proves Australia has no idea how to manage this.
It also proves that popular politics playing a xenophobic angle works amongst the community. Doesn’t seem much has changed since the One Nation days of the 90s.
No surprise deaths have reduced to a fraction. The latest estimate I heard from data analysts was that on top of knowing how to treat better, due to extensive testing regimes the number of cases being registered as positive today in major European countries are approx 25% of the number of actual positives that were in the community through late March and early April.

Now that straw man has been exposed, new theories have been required. What I find strange is how rarely WA receives even a fraction of the attention for its border policies...
Worthwhile remembering that NSW's botched handling of its borders, despite some grandstanding in early March, is what first led to 38 regions across Australia getting their first CV cases. As has been shown overseas (eg all of Europe) repeatedly is that it is better to risk criticism for 'over reaction' than for burying thousands of extra people per day.
CV really is the poster child for "He who hesitates is lost!"

One aspect that is either encouraging (glass half full) or alarming (half empty) - is that the UK, French & Italian daily death rate has reduced to a fraction per 100 daily cases vs the 1st wave. Unfortunately the German rate has not - whereas Germany was one of the standouts during their 1st wave - the daily number of deaths is close to the peak of the 1st wave vs perhaps 1/4 to 1/6th in the case of the other 3.
