Curious & curiouser - worker in kitchen is patient zero. Pizza Bar link - security guard worker at two venues caught it from kitchen worker, & passed it onto cook at Pizza Bar.

Still not learnt the lesson of quarantine facility workers working a second job.

Completely avoidable disaster.

Edit: Hmm I'm a little confused as the presser has gone on, maybe need some clarification on how exactly it spread. Either way, having gone through the Victorian experience my thoughts are very much with those who will be under lockdown in SA as of tonight.

But, I do totally agree that the saying 'people rise to the level of their incompetence' keeps getting reinforced week after week this year - in the worst possible way.

• Not imposing regular weekly mandatory testing of all people facing CV - border workers (airports, wharfs, airline staff), quarantine workers (cooks, cleaners, security, medical, clerical, tradespeople) & others (lab technicians, medical couriers etc). Done on a phased basis say 1/5th per business day or 1/7th per day (depending on operation).
• Banning any of these workers from second jobs outside this system, with Fed Govt funding to top up earnings (proven past payslips for example) to ensure no 'off-the-books' work.
• Standardised protocols for establishing pop-up testing, including a Fed Govt 'Flying squad' available on 24 hrs (max) notice.
• Pre-positioned PPE specifically for pop-up testing in all capitals
• Standardised ID template based on Medicare #
• Standardised contact tracing template
• Pre-outbreak contact with top 20 (by population) non-English speaking communities (different for each state) to establish flick-of-the switch broadcast process to ensure no excuses for any group 'not' buying in.

Private quarantine hotel security working multiple jobs... whoopsies....

And they like all other states except VIC and NSW have a population who were very complacent and fallen into a false sense of security because there hadn’t been cases for a few months. That’s why they need this circuit breaker they simply aren’t prepared, from all angles. But I doubt any state apart from VIC and NSW are prepared....

And we have 50,000 people expected at the SOO in Brisbane.... disaster.... should NEVER have been allowed. Breeds a complete and utter disregard that there is still a pandemic....

Wish Sydney would do this (to get a handle on their troublesome outer suburbs)....

Not necessary in Sydney, we havent had to go to these extremes to keep things under control.

No cases in those outer suburbs in over 2 weeks, last community case was in a regional area and no further cases there for 11 days. Would be crazy to lock down the whole of NSW now.

This sudden change of tactic in SA implies they must have discovered something new and very daming i.e. the security guard and not the cleaner is patient zero, did they lie initially about their second job?

I thought security guards working quarantine were prevented from having second jobs outside of quarantine hotels since the issues in Victoria and the one in NSW months ago?

That is the question I am found asking myself. They should really mention if they have proof that weak strains mutate toward being stronger, more infectious and more deadly. Instead of being weak and just mutating themselves out of existence.

Having no take away food at all operate and no exercise what so ever is just...odd. I imagine the former is obviously fuelled by the source of this cluster spreading, but the latter...geez.

Not even permitted to exercise is beyond insane. I’m not sure of the living arrangements in Adelaide, but here in inner city Sydney there are countless people (who live as couples or with pets) living in studios and it’s not acceptable to lock people into those sorts of living situations. I’m lucky I’ve got a large house by inner city standards but even I’d struggle to keep the dog exercised and keep myself sane.

We clearly have moved beyond the goal of “suppression” and it’s time that was acknowledged so it can be planned for. It’s absurd that, nearly a year into this, we still have no idea what the end goal is.

If this is how we’re going to live our lives moving forward, Australia isn’t looking like such a great place to live.

WA is assisting SA with the contact tracing as they use the same system.

VIC has been as well, they offered from the start and are actively involved which is good, having ALOT of recent cluster busting experience.

QLD are too busy getting ready to have 50,000 people in a stadium to watch football... lets hope we don't have a quarantine breach at the game

Given we only had two positives today. Apparently this mutation infects people very rapidly hence 6 days represents two life cycles. Well, that's what they are telling us. Then another 8 days of lesser restrictions.

Even the Police Commissioner said he questioned as to why we needed such strict lockdowns. So he has covered his butt. But when a CMO has full control this is what happens.

It seems the driver is the speed at which the new strain moves. It could be better to slam everything shut for six days and stop it in it's tracks, rather than to have months of lock-down.
That said, I've had to cancel my proposed trip for next week. I was still looking at going provided the situation didn't explode. My assessment of the risk, knowing where I was going, was that it was very slight. As I worked through cancelling, I couldn't help contemplating what it must be like to manage a hotel at the moment. Full one minute, swamped with cancellations the next

Perhaps an unfortunate choice of word. This strong and swift action from SA is maybe indicative of a far greater potential problem than has been publicly announced so far, which would completely vindicate the actions of other States Premiers who have closed borders to SA, and arguably saves NSW the embarrassment of having to do so - effectively SA have done it for her.

I find that very sad. I don't know why but I seem to feel more sorry for airline staff than anyone else. Possibly because I've been flying throughout this and they have all been so friendly, even though we all know how precarious the situation is.

I would guess that this would seem to be to get a true handle on exactly how many infections that there may already be or not be and where they may be (which given that the existing cases have been out and about is potentially widespread), and for mixing in the interim to not result in even more from those already infected but who do not know that they are..

While they do seem to be on the overly harsh side, it is better to be that than way too easy.

The most important thing is to be swift. At the start of the Vic Second Wave the tendency tended to be be to wait for data before applying new measures and that tended to just have us chasing our tail.
