Well at least he was already in quarantine and also being the partner presumably all the genuine close contacts will also all be already in quarantine. So hopefully there really should not be any additional risk, but rather people in quarantine who become positive.

As it’s the partner, then Qld Health probably now need to contact the 2nd ring (ie close contacts of the close contacts of the partner) and get them into quarantine/ isolation - so maybe 50-100 people

If they follow the VIC model of containment which it was reported they were, this should have already happened, I’m sure it has. Assuming so as restrictions are still lifting.

Not sure this is right - a 2nd ring around cleaner is not the same as 2nd ring around partner. Sure there may be some overlap, but some would be mutually exclusive.

My understanding is that the second ring is a separate ring around each of the first lot of close contacts.

So the cleaner's partner would have had their initial close contacts identified. Now they have to work on their close contacts.

Perhaps not technically, but surely it would be prudent to do so for for the partner as well for if there was one person you would expect to be likely to get infected it would be a partner. So with couples you would think it prudent to have two rings around all their close contacts even they each have some separate close contacts.

However as the partner tested positive 5 days after the cleaner, they may not have been infectious before they went into quarantine and so may not have in themselves infected anyone else.

The partner in themselves showing up infected now to me is just a sign of the system working as they most likely have been in quarantine in their entire infectious period.

Others may also now start to test positive. Hopefully just those already in quarantine.

The Victorian site for permits is now operational Have to say it looks good... easy to understand, and links to the exemption form if you are coming from a red zone. The requirements look fair... green zone = free passage, orange zone = covid test within three days and self isolate.

The news tonight seemed nonplussed about the delay in the site becoming operational, saying this will now effectively open up the borders for most people (except coming from a red zone). The reporter said there is a grace period for people arriving up until midnight tonight.

Suggest that's the incubation period.
Would have been isolating and probably tested more than once.

Nothing surprising. ..as noted above probably not tested daily. So may have bern positive for some days without knowing it. Plus:

1/ People will become positive at different rates.

2/ And secondly if they were quarantining with their partner they may have become infected after quarantine began and not before it started.
