Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Honestly that isnt a compelling justification for me. AFL. Dont have to wear a mask on the packed footy bus/train. Get off either and have to wear a mask until you sit down. Then you can yell to your hearts content. Mixed message much? Maybe I wouldnt be so cranky if right now they arent pressing alarm bells for covid positive sewage.
That sewage "alarm" was purely instilling panic in to the population and entirely ridiculous in my opinion.

Especially when they can't say for sure one way or the other that it didn't come from someone in hotel quarantine (even if the hot hotel is on the other side of the CBD, could have easily been from a shedder from o/s, a local shedder or someone still waiting to be moved to the other hotel).

My rational side says yes, it's a way of pushing people to get tested as rates have been dropping. On the other hand they are so reactive just one case especially with crowds at Fringe, will see them close down SA again.

...or maybe a way of encouraging people to get vaccinations when available...

Adelaide's second positive COVID–19 wastewater test from undetected infection or old case

South Australian health authorities say a positive COVID-19 result in wastewater from Adelaide's CBD is either from an undetected case in the community or shedding from an old infection.

Deputy Chief Public Health Officer Emily Kirkpatrick said further testing had ruled out that the result was not a mistake and it did not come from a returned traveller or a medi-hotel worker.

And Cairns hospital has declared a Code Yellow with 6 positive Covid cases in returning FIFO workers from PNG.
Do you have a view whether positive covid patients need to be transferred to hospital? I think in Australia only Qld has such a policy.

Well in Cairns it would not make sense to have a medi hotel as well as the one hotel for HQ.
As I said in another thread this is why QLD is going to urgently vaccinate Torres Strait islanders with their AZ vaccine.

This has been floating around SA for a few days now. I'm just wondering if you just had mild symptoms and were a visitor, are you going to get tested and end up in a hospital for 2 weeks? Fringe and Festival have many interstate visitors at the moment.

I'm wondering if this could apply to locals also? Mild symptoms, just keep away from people for a while. If it all goes away, you've saved yourself from being responsible for shutting down half the country.

Well, I can understand people doing exactly that. Self isolate (if we are lucky) and wait until symptoms disappear. It's a tricky one to manage.

3 cases in SA today all returned OS travellers. Two are old infections. Sewage levels declined but still present but so far not reflected in a positive Covid in the community. Long May that last.

Perhaps a dumb question- with frontline quarantine workers getting vaccinated and continuing daily/shift testing, would they start to have positive PCR or rapid test results because of the inoculation? Or is it only on antibodies tests?

Locally we keep getting told the sewage in our area is positive for Covid. The fact that the main hospital on the Sunshine coast is in our area obviously has nothing to do with it.

SA Health has med hotels in the CBD as well but they keep saying all positives are put into a different hotel and not in this catchment. Completely ignoring the fact that people can be positive for a couple of days before they get tested again (days 1 5 and 12 I believe) and then they test to check if it's an old infection and if so, they stay in that catchment. So possibly up to seven days in the area while being positive. Seems a no brainer if they are testing positive from an old infection then likely their poop is doing the same thing. But no, drama drama drama, get tested and all the while the Fringe et al continues amidst no social distancing. If they were the least bit worried then they should have shut that down.
