I did not say they don't do their jobs well. I am looking for evidence to support your claim they are acting to the detriment of the people they serve in order to build power in their own silos.

As for pay... wages are often much lower in the UK. Aside from property in some key hotspots like London, the cost of living is very low over there.

I think you’ll find they only needed to do that before because the host government didn’t (or plainly inadequately).

Agree it seems like a no brainer to test those workers regularly, maybe not weekly but certainly on a regular basis.

Have you seen property prices in the UK lately? The home counties is not something I'd consider to be cheap either, nor are places like the Cotsworlds, Cheshire, etc.

Essentially, anything within 100mi of a major city (e.g. London, Manchester) will tend to be fairly pricey and anywhere that's visually nice (e.g. a good chunk of the rest of the UK, especially areas that are AONB or National Parks) commands as much, if not more than property in London. Pricing in/around Edinburgh is a little more palatable. Wales, however.... not so much. Prices are pretty good out there, but then you're near ...... nothing

VIC already has mandatory testing in several high risk environments.

QLD definitely doesn't. Don't know about the rest.

Is the mandatory testing for those involved with the quarantine system though?

The below release talks about abattoirs, other food processing & distribution centres. Couldn't find any information relating to those involved in the quarantine system.

Yes WA Health Minister also mentioned they were now investigating that as well.

Doubtful given Vic isnt acceptong overseas arrivals, and since that was suspended they have only had a handful of local people unable to quarantine at home in supervised quarantine.

Hmmmm, quarantine hotel, private security guards, large families. Wonder if some posters will now back off on their constant carping on about Vic? I wonder if certain ministers are now going to stand up and criticise the SA Premier for being 100% to blame?

Bit ironic the border to SA is closed to Victorians but not the reverse!

Our Xmas/New Year holiday to Adelaide cancelled today. Too risky to plan travel to that state now. The complacency of the general population in SA and WA has been nagging at me for quite a while.

To be fair, News did not spend much time grilling the Victorian government on hotel quarantine procedures, contact tracing or infection control. They spent most of the energy focussing on "who made the decision" to employ private security. As this SA outbreak, and similar ones in other states have shown, the media attention perhaps could have been on infection control, contract tracing and overall quarantine management, rather than that single decision. Anyway, we still will see what happens when the inquiry reports its findings.

The criticism of Victoria was how the security set up in the quarantine hotels was arranged by government as it led to a catastrophic outbreak . The South Australian outbreak is nowhere near the magnitude or has been demonstrated to have been caused in a similar way to Victoria ( amongst other things, behaviour of guards) so I don’t think there is any comparison. The Victorian government in my opinion deserved every measure of criticism it got. Hundreds and hundreds of deaths from the hotel mistakes. I am sure we will find out more detail about the South Australian outbreak in due course and if it can be traced back to a government decision, then the criticism will flow to them too.

Complacency basically outside of VIC I imagine is pretty bad. Sure is in QLD.

And yes has been hilarious to see the 'non' reaction from the Federal Gov and News v SA Government in comparison. Its all been hugs and kisses. If this was QLD there would have been nukes loaded and launched within 0.5 seconds of the quarantine breach and private security involvement
