I saw these dates starting to appear in a magazine. Thought I'd post them in here for everyone to keep in mind for 2011.

Previous years I have left my planning too late and end up with difficult flight times and lack of accom - for 2011 I'll start planning earlier.

I expect I'll be down for Saturday & Sunday shows.

The website is sketchy on details at present.
Thanks albatross710,

Time for me to start working on some trade day and chalet passes. ;)

hmm.. might be time to fly myself down there again during the trade days.. unfortunately i'll have to slum it with a Media Pass!

I have some great memories flying down there and landing on a makeshift runway (usually a taxiway!)

FYI.

Tickets are now on sale. I've booked a Gold Pass (Meteor stand) for Friday the 4th. Flights and accommodation also booked :)

Wonder if QF will do a charter, note the current QF sale covers these dates ex QLD.

The RAAF have announced the Airshow will be the venue they will celebrate their 90Th Birthday at Avalon and have sent invites to all the Air forces they have worked with to join in!

Yeah, I read the bit about RAAF the other day - but if other Air Forces join in then it should be awesome :)

As for me, I'll be flying into AVV on JQ603 landing 08:45 Friday and departing AVV on JQ614 at 14:45 on Saturday. Seat 1C each way :)

I'll be there, just a question of whether it will be a work :) or personally :( funded trip.

Got a one day gold pass for the last one, was worth it for the elevated view of Connie throwing her engines into reverse pitch and seeing flames halfway back to the tail in the cloudy dusk :)

Oh, and seeing the B1-Bs up close was pretty awesome as well.

I missed the B1Bs but wsa lucky to catch them at the SIN one a few years ago along with the A380 doing some non normal manoeuvres. I wont be springing for the Gold Pass, mainly there to wet the appetite of Markis10jr for aviation, I would like to see him work one day in Aviation as he will get opportunities I can only dream about.

Sounds like fun, not sure if I’ll be there though, depends on how much it’ll be all up. I am interested though.

Seems that Junior delinquent (the only 13 yo i know of who has sat in the pilot seat of an A380) wants to go so the idiot father has sprung for a gold pass and we are in the spitfire stand

I can't find where these are apart from near the runway!
Anyone know where an overall map is?

Shane

JD How many days is it for?

Just a interest note for those who are looking for motels in the area, Werribee has a number - Werribee Park (quite good) is a good location and not too shabby.

The tower motel is slightly closer to town and also not too shabby. There are serviced apartments - if anyone's interested in the name, let me know and I'll do a drive by. The Train travels to Werribee from Southern Cross, the town centre has a reasonable selection of reasonable restaurants, and there is always a bus from Werribee to the Airshow (or ask me nice and I'll give you a lift) if you are vehicle less. I will have room for 4 average PAX or 3 or larger stature in my 4x4 from Werribee.

PS. How do I get a trade pass? Our company has military contracts - primarily with the Navy though

Hi all,

I am new to this forum & would really appreciate some opinions on the Avalon Air Show.

I just noticed that the price of the tickets for the 2011 airshow are out of our budget. Can anyone recommend or suggest some locations outside of the airshow arena in which we may be able to get a good look at the planes flying overhead? It may be a silly question but I'm sorry, we have never been anywhere near Avalon or it's surrounds so we are totally unfamiliar with the area.

Also, is the airshow suited for children (2 girls, aged 8 &10) or is it really geared to men? Are you allowed into the exhibition of airplanes and are there many female pilots around as they would be good role models for my daughters.

Any feedback would be much appreciated. With thanks!:)

They normally run a train from Southern Cross Stn (in the city) to Lara? rail station via V-Line, then buses will take you another 10 minutes to the airport... by far the best way of getting in and out of the show IMO (drove once, will never do that again!). I have not checked if that is being done again, but I see no reason why it wouldnt happen.

COMING BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
By Train

Special VLine rail services will operate from Melbourne and Geelong to Lara Station. A shuttle bus service will connect to the Airshow site. Additional information will be coming soon.
