I would think they do a check at the entry gate to the ground (bags and eskies etc), I can't imagine them doing full car searches at the entry to the car park.

That is how it has been done in the past.

Hello ,

Got my gold pass for FRI , SAT and SUN - Spitfire stand , gonna get in really early on all the days to get the best parking spot. This year my Cannon will get a healthy exercise. General admission was horrible last time , and the weather made it even worse. Awaiting the list of all aircraft it should be up in about two weeks or so.

At this stage a lot of action happening at Aero India - Bangalore , will get more accurate details of the aircraft's visiting Avalon after Aero India.

BBQ is an awesome idea - they don't check all the cars on public days , they are too short staffed , but you may not be allowed to put up a BBQ in the Airshow Grounds (Due to high fire risk) , but drinks - you might sneak in some but there is a bag check sometimes - I managed to sneak in 2 six packs of Corona last time (chilled). they got over in the first 40 mins , and I did not need more till after lunch.

Also planning to buy the trade passes for Wednesday and Thursday.

I just don't know how to get my hands on a Chalet pass or sneak in to the VIP bar ?? Any help with that folks - will be highly appriciated. ;););)

Gonna be very formally dressed for the trade days ( wear my almost best suit) - increases my chances for a chalet pass ???

Re: Avalon Airshow 1-6 March 2011, BBQ Lunch Saturday anyone?

I'm actually easy with days, sat or sun, as I will be attending the trade show

Same.. for work! ;) we'll have to meet up.

Which day are you guys going? I've got a trade pass too and prefer to get a gawk at the birds on the ground without all the masses there (especially is the weather is hot as it's been the past few air shows i've been to down there).

Maybe we can arrange Mojitos still ;)

My pass gives me access to all days.. I was thinking maybe the Wednesday & Thursday for the trade day. Not sure of my plans for the weekend though.

Where did you get a pass from Drew? I am only planning on a business card at the gate, but would prefer an actual pass if for nothing else but a keepsake

Im planning on Friday, and I'm always keen for a Majito! If you are worried about driving, feel free to catch the train to Werribee and I can pick you up and deliver you back after the show and a few M's ;)

Registered for and received my trade pass today, emailed to me with bar scan and name on so all good.

Will fly to MEL on Thursday morning and will attend the Airshow on Thursday and Friday using said trade pass. BBQ on Saturday sounds good before flying home on Saturday night.

My cameras will get a huge work out.

Hey ,

I got the same barcode email , but you still have to buy a trade day ticket , worth $55 per day I guess. Can anyone confirm , I called up Ticketmaster and they have no clue as to what I am talking about :-

" sir - we do not have any details regarding trade passes , however trade day tickets can be purchased online for $55 Per Day".

They are only aware about the
trade day tickets.

???

happy contrails.

Given there are going to be a few of us in MEL should we have a drinks/dinner on the Thursday night? Friday and Saturday nights are going to be late nights at the Air Show so Thursday seems the best night.

At this point I am going to need to do some serious grovelling to get any chalet passes so no promises to anyone yet.

If anyone's looking for a cheap flight into AVV from Sydney, price beat the current Tiger sale and its $21.52 into AVV or $25.77 into MEL.

Got some friends going back on JQ6 for $25 which is a steal.

Williamstown sounds good and not too far from town to get back to my hotel afterwards.

I'm open to other suggestions including in town but not having lived there for many years am not sure what is good.

My sister-in-law's father owns an aircraft spare parts shop at an airport in WA so he's offered to register me. I could use the link that's been provided, but I'll probably just let him do it for me so it's all above board then (I believe he's sent freebies anyway regardless of the ability to register online).

The train idea is good i'll take you up on that offer thanks. I noticed dinner suggestions on the Thursday too? I've moved house and am just near the Westgate onramp now so it's a nice easy drive down for dinner (if anyone needs a lift from the CBD I'm happy to assist in to/from there for any dinner plans).

Now I want a Mojito damnit :(
