Re: Avalon Airshow 1-6 March 2011, BBQ Lunch Saturday anyone?

My sister-in-law's father owns an aircraft spare parts shop at an airport in WA so he's offered to register me. I could use the link that's been provided, but I'll probably just let him do it for me so it's all above board then (I believe he's sent freebies anyway regardless of the ability to register online).

The train idea is good i'll take you up on that offer thanks. I noticed dinner suggestions on the Thursday too? I've moved house and am just near the Westgate onramp now so it's a nice easy drive down for dinner (if anyone needs a lift from the CBD I'm happy to assist in to/from there for any dinner plans).

Now I want a Mojito damnit :(

no probs, I'll pm you my number

I realise this topic hasn't been updated since January last year (not sure if there's a policy in dragging up old threads here), but I'd like to mention that I'll be coming to AVV for the air show! DJ down to MEL on the 4th and back up to SYD on the 7th, probably going Saturday. Looking at getting the heli from the city to the show (what an entrance!) but I'm undecided as yet. Have any gatherings been organised? :)

Last post was only 9th Jan this year so it's all good ;)

Plenty of us are planning to visit on trade and normal visitor days, so I dare say a little closer to the date plans will be firmed up and you can join us for the festivities:)

Oh and munitalP, still waiting for your number (mine hasn't changed if you still have it).

Heh, looks like I mis-read the date. Looking forward to meeting a few AFFs there!

Sorry Drew - PM on its way!

Wonder if the USAF will send a Raptor or two from Kadena for the show, they are deploying 15 for 4 months from Alaska! They were there at the same time Avalon was last on, so no guarantees, just hope ;):D

Kadena to host Alaska-based F-22s - Okinawa - Stripes

Looks like that hope is a bit more concrete now, there is a Raptor profile on the airshows page:

AVALON 2011 - AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW AND AEROSPACE & DEFENCE EXPOSITION - 1-6 March 2011 GEELONG VICTORIA

Here comes the bones as part of bananas in pyjamas!

The aircraft scheduled to appear is now up on the site, good to see the Lancer is returning (believe two are coming) and the previously mentioned F22 Raptor.

Looks like we have the famous bananas in pyjamas - B1 and B2 aswell :lol:

Seriously, a B2 and a F22 - worth the trip!

B1 and B2 have been on the site for a while :P Looks like we'll get a RNZAF 757 as well, which I'm pretty happy about! :) Should be a good show!

A few more aerobatic team's like blue angels , breitling jet team or other military aerobatic teams, would be a sell out for the show.

Does anyone know if the 787 or the A380 are coming down for the display ?

What so special about the NZ 757, Sydney usually gets one or two 757s a day? believe the B2 will be a flyby.

I don't get a chance to get to the airport much for spotting, and I don't fly as much as many people here either, plus it's a military variant. ;)

It's not that exciting on the outside, it's just a 757 in NZAF livery.

The highlight of the last time I saw it years ago was a climb performance demonstration. it took off, and almost went up at 90º. Was extremely impressive for a civil a/c.

Do we know if it'll actually be flying? Hopefully we'll get this kind of display.

At least we know where the fighter pilots went in the RNZAF since they are the only jets they now operate .

No idea. This was probably 6-8 years ago on one of the public days. Last time I went only on the industry days (as i'll probably end up doing for this one too). Prefer to get a gawk at the birds without the masses around (especially if it's a hot day, which most of the air shows are; damn weather).
