BR is my favourite J but was wondering how new NH J will compare. Do you still rate BR higher?
Yes BR I felt was better, but NH was still very good, and excellent use of points. I mean NH don't have Krug on the route, whereas BR does between JFK & TPE. What more do we need?
The new ANA seat was good, plenty of room, akin to SQ's old A380 seats in terms of width, which I love, although a bit flimsy when in sitting position. Beds were comfortable. Also has a "door" to provide "privacy", although I really don't understand this whole fad of adding doors to business class seats. The ANA version certainly ave the feeling of privacy when sitting/sleeping, but the reality is when walking through the cabin you can see everyone sitting or sleeping in their seats, as the "door"s aren't very high.
The first meal was excellent, akin to the BR meal I had travelling in the other direction 2.5 years ago. Amuse-bouche followed by entree and soup, then main (I opted for the steak, very juicy, tender beef, still a little pink in the middle, one of the best steaks I've had on a plane), then dessert etc. Very good. Also at different points during the flight I switched from Champagne, to Japanese plum wine, to Hibiki, so beverages were good. What was a bit perplexing was the second meal was more snack-like than a full meal, similar to what you get as second meal on much shorter MEL/SYD-SIN flights. With the flight being almost 14.25 hrs 10:45am-3pm arrival, I consider it comparable to SQ's 5 minute longer day flight to LHR (9am-3:20pm arrival), which has two full meal services. Nevertheless, substantial snacks were available on request, I had a nice Japanese curry and later some very good Ramen.
Amenities kits are not a big deal for me (been trained well by SQ
), and a basic one was provided. But what irked me (again due to my SQ training) was the absence of things like lotions, spray mists, cologne in the toilets. I sort of used to, even in economy, having lotion and cologne in the toilets to use! But this is all minor, overall good solid flight.
