Avianca LifeMiles – Bookings and Discussion

I agree guys that TG awards are so rare these days. Too bad as I really want to use up my remaining 120k Life miles.

I can see TG availability with United, but I don't have United miles.
I don't know if the 'call up and ask for the seats' trick may work with lifemiles? generally if it shows on one platform, the seats should be theocratically available?

The ability exists for the operating carrier to "screen" which partner airlines have access to see the award inventory. Hence the reason SQ has always had its "special friends" that could access its premium cabins while most partners remained blocked.

The call centre can only see what we can see. So 99% sure that they won’t be able to find inventory not showing in the website.

Cf Aeroplan where I believe you *can* call up to see if agents can see availability their end. But I’ve never tried that.

I'm still very pissed with LM. They used to show heaps of reward seats on business on United from Sydney to pretty much LAX, SFO and even IAH, but now they no longer show any business seats. I was even able to fly to the US in October on business with my wife. What irritateme the most is that when you search on Velocity or even Aeroplan, they do have business reward seats available for these days but LM shows nothing.

I complainted to them on X and guess what? Their cheap excuse was that they ran out of business reward seats. I couldn't believe it when I read it! Is that even possible?

Yes, it’s entirely possible.

Airlines can - and do - provide different award availability to different partners.

Given LM sells such a lot of miles, at a heavy discount, they have been known to be on the receiving end of restricted availability.

So while you may see it on united or velocity, it might not be there for LM.

LM has become such a useless program. No TG, ANA , and UA award flights from major Aussie cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. I feel sorry for people who have heaps of miles but can't use them.

By the way, how did you find United's long haul service and food? I am thinking of flying with them between Melbourne and SFO next year.

I flew UA’s polaris business, but old seating from LAX. Perfectly fine! It’s comfort food. Service is fine.

Thank you for replying 😊 OK I shall consider UA as an option then.

Now we hope that the Global Entry program will be open to every Australian later this year. 🙏
Go in with zero expectations and i think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

The ice cream sundaes are delicious. The bedding is good. The service during the meals was fine, not sure there’s anything outside of meal times that’s different to any other carrier.

Sounds good! Usually I prefer the Asian carriers, but I will seriously consider UA as another option now.

It was good. Service, food, drinks were nice! This was our first time on business on a long-haul flight so couldn't fault anything. It was on a 789 aircraft so we enjoyed. The only problem for me was that the flight departs around 10am so I couldn't sleep much but bedding was comfortable for my few naps :)

Thank you for replying :) That sounds great ! Was the Polaris Lounge at LAX nice too ?

I didn’t think it was a patch on the AA Flagship lounges. Yes the space was ok… far better than AAdmirals Club liunges, or ye olde basic United clubs. But I would probably out it on par with galleries and the QF MEL/SYD international J lounges.

Ah i see ! Well, time for me to check out Youtube videos of UA and the lounges now 🤭
