re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I'm humming about buying it still. Where is the info the promo has been extended for 2 days? I got burned last time with the online purchase telling me I was getting a certain number of bonus miles but didn't eventuate as I bought above the quota (my rookie mistake but the system allowed me to it then withheld my bonus miles)-took me forever to get it rectified.
I wonder if they didn't get the update they were hoping for. The promotion has been extended for two days.

I received an email:

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

decided to forgo this one and buy some mileage plus in teh hopes of doing a F/J return to Taiwan and BKK - UA offers a free stopover with return flights which makes them competitive compared to LM, esp when J to pasrts of Asia is just 30K and F to BKK is just 40K

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Is the two day promo extension targeted ?

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

[h=2]The New Inside Flyer Launches with a 150% Bonus on Purchased Miles and Up to 50% Off Awards[/h]http://viewfromthewing.boardingarea.com/2015/10/03/the-new-inside-flyer-launches-with-a-150-bonus-on-purchased-miles-and-up-to-50-off-awards/

Theoretically 1.3cpp. I fear a points devaluation with all these generous bonus promos.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

135% bonus? meh. didn't buy.... 145% bonus? hmm... still didn't buy.... and now 150% bonus....

You have to purchase at least 100,000 points. This means a minimum payment of some USD 3,300 or so.

Sure, the rate is cheap, but do you have USD 3,300 ready to hand over right now. You might get around 9,200 credit card points for it, but that is a lot of money to lock in now.

I fear a points devaluation with all these generous bonus promos.

Don't think so. This promotion, for all intents and purposes, is going to a smaller subset of people than the other promos. At least this one, you do not have to be a MilePoint member or a LifeMiles member before the promotion to benefit from it. However, it is still not going to pull every Tom, Dick and Harry in.

The minimum purchase is going to put some people off. You don't have a lot of time to decide to buy in or not.

They are also running discounts on some redemptions to go with it, however all of these are suited mainly to the North America crowd - no discounts for the Australian zone (Others).

Lets hope not. But my opinion is based on many many months and years of very lucrative LM promos, not just this one. Speaking of which, when was the last LM enhancement (aside from their online booking tool limitations)?

2014? Although it was mainly a hike for USA->Europe IIRC. I think Australia-Asia was unaffected, or came down in price.

Yes, Oct 2014 was the last change in the award chart. Most routes went up while Australia-Asia came down so it wasn't all bad news for us.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Hi,

(i) When to business (Thai?) awards typically open up for Europe - Perth on lifemiles? Doing a search out 11 months but nothing seems to come up on TG.
(ii) which are the best departure ports to try? tried cdg and ams without any luck...

Seems to be tough to get back to Australia after SQ limited their award to <14 days.

I haven't ever looked for Europe to Perth but Thai business class to oz is pretty generous often 2 seats are available. Try from MUC or FRA to Bkk then do a second search to Perth from Bkk. If there is no luck to Perth try Sydney or Melbourne. There always seems to be seats Bkk to Mel and then you could get separate tix to Perth. (Or try Adelaide )

I believe seats open up around 330 days for Thai not sure about the others but I think most open around this time (not Singapore)

Look for A380 flights out of europe (CDG and LHR?) For a fully-flat J product

I don't know when you are looking for flights but I did a search for you and found flights MUC - BKK - PER. (around 6 July 15) I also looked at the lifemiles site and it is showing 0 flights direct to Perth. I think you are coming up with the IT glitch here where it won't show the connecting flights. If you do a search seperatly you will find flights. Do MUC - BKK - then BKK to Perth on lifemiles and it comes up. To get these flights you will need to email the Lifemiles and they will book it for you.

I thought Lifemiles won't allow this as the connection is greater than 8 hours?

Although noting that the above connection may be disallowed by LM as it exceeds the 8 hour allowance traditionally allowed for connections. YMMV.
