re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion
Thanks again. I read a new TG J 772 trip report just yesterday andnoticed the new meal service had even made it onto the older planes. Looks significantlybetter.
They’re just about to board a TG J flight BKK-CDG tonight (Ibooked them J over, F back). I’m seeing them next week – I’ll try and get asense from them about how impressed they were with the improved J service.
I booked them a separate EDI-FRA rev flight the day before as LMs doesn’tallow F+Y mixed bookings. I can easily change this to EDI-CDG or EDI-LHR so wouldn’tadd in a LMs connection from FRA. If its LHR I’d probably just put them on atrain (I’ve done both train and plane on this route). If its CDG the whole *Apremium experience is pretty average, if its LHR it’s the beautiful new QueensTerminal with excellent lounges but then I’m slugged with the UK APD tax.
We’ll see what opens up but I might just leave them where theyare. I know they will be uneasy with last minute changes to their travellingplans.
I was actually going to come back and make a comment about the 77W... service levels have dramatically improved with the introduction of their new meal service in long haul business... no more meal trays, everything is set directly on the table. Silver bowls for your bread selection. And an extensive choice of mix and match courses. Pretty impressive (although the taste can be a bit bland). There's also new long-stemmed champagne flutes.
Personally i don't rate the TG A80 all *that* highly. It's ok, but I like the 747 better. of course F is F, but 77W (same seats as the A80 in business class) along with the new service levels and it's not that far off. You'll miss the PJs and Rimova amenity kit, but as you say the ground service once reaching BKK is the same.
As for lounges, TG F dun get access to the LH F lounges anyway... but there will be a 'downgrade' from the Senator Lounge to the regular business lounge. In FRA there isn't that much of a difference anymore now that they've upgraded the business lounges (they used to be the very poor cousin of the senator lounge).
If F does open up it will mean an extra connection, dunno how LM will handle that. Email? I'd probably just call them at first instance. And then hope if they can make the change that they don't lose the BKK-SYD seats in the process
