re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Now that SQ J ex MEL/BNE is possible again the LM bonus offer looks even better :)

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I'd probably advise to get in quick!!

The promo clearly says '+10%' so if they're offering 20% (which it appears they are ATM) I'd be in there buying!

That's not to say LM couldn't reverse the transaction later (reduce the bonus, even after purchase), but if you're not in it your're not in it! (IIRC wasn't there some program where there was a bonus 5000 miles or something incorrectly credited which was later reversed?)

Actually, if you read the wording carefully, it might be they are really offering 120% bonus. LM's promotion is never like USDM where it clearly says 100% bonus, but "2x1", which to me it is saying 2 for the price of one.

eg. if you purchase 1000 miles, you get 2000 miles in total. When you say "2 for the price of 1", you are actually purchasing 2000 miles, and 10% bonus is 200 miles, so in total you get 2200 miles, a bonus of 1200 miles or 120% bonus.

Mathematically, it is (2 x 1) + 10% of the (2 x 1) = 2.20.

Anyway, if this is a mistake and they are going to take it away later, I wouldn't rush it. Just wait and see. Because even if this is a mistake, the cost per mile is still 1.5 cents each, which is the same price as you would pay for flexi payment anyway. So if you rushed in and purchased the whole 150k allowance and later got miles deducted, you actually end up paying more than 1.5 cents each. But considering the recent share mile bonus in Feb was at 1.5 cents each, I think LM is happy to sell it at 1.5 cents each, thus this is not a mistake.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

To save me looking - how much USD is 68,000 miles?
But I swear I am not buying - the Singapore t-14 glitch plus TG being so precarious (esp Brisbane which they will most likely discontinue, the options out of OZ are really limited in J

I am concerned about this as well. But there are still good value in it if you don't mind transiting in SYD/MEL.

SYD-LAX on OZ and CA is wide open, with the very rare SYD/MEL-LAX/SFO on UA. On the return leg, you have more choices from US cities. AFAIK, LAX, SFO, ORD and JFK are all possible on OZ (which offer very good J product now). At 80K miles, or $1200 USD one way plus very little tax, SQ and QF would have charged at least half of that as YQ. AS costed a bit more as it costs 2.14 cents even with 40% bonus. AA cost about the same but only if you can find award with QF which is virtually none. Routing through Asia would have costed more.

With the screenshot technic, it can still be useful, although you do have a lot of hassles. As I said, it's a love and hate relationship.

Sorry and have to add its also good from PER given SQ J to SIN...we tend to be forgotten over here (oh is that a chip on my shoulder:p...).

Seriously though i agree that it still offers really good value and ability to get F seats on ANA, Thai, Asiana, UA...and the ability to get 4 J seats often as well.

Yes its a fine art but its all part of the journey........

No, I didn't forget about PER. In fact it is a blessing that SQ J is wide open in PER. The other good redemption from PER is SAA which is also wide open! I personally have a redemption with SAA PER-JNB-GRU and it's good value considering it's not easy to go to South America from Aus. It's just that for us based in east coast to travel to PER is not as easy as SYD/MEL.

If anything, BNE is the most cursed area. There are only 4 *A members that serve BNE. NZ, SQ, TG and BR. Well, we all know how generous is NZ. SQ has close it's door with the "glitch", BR also limited to T-14, it leaves us with TG only, which is likely to discontinue!

that seems reasonable.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

hmmm...so I just buy in 1,000 point blocks to take advantage of the +1,200?

You can if that's all the miles you need. And I believe you can come back a bit later and buy more if neede.

Edit: oops, I think I misunderstood you. You have to buy lifemiles at 1000 block anyway. And whatever miles you buy you always get 120% bonus. It's not tiered, which makes it sweeter than AA/AS.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Maximum miles to buy during a calendar year: LM 150,000 (including any promotional miles purchase bonus)

Looks like you can only buy max 68000 + bonus 81600 = 149600?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I think LM is still a great program to redeem on quality carriers like OZ, NH, TK, Austrian and Swiss. Just have to position outside of Australia....

Shhh!
Still appears on the occasional account.

Ned to think my needs through but at this price would defnitely be making at least the small purchase to reset my expiry clock!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

And I was planning to stay home for new years.

There goes my productivity for this week.

Has anyone has success booking Air China connections to other parts of Asia? Im sick of TG.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Apparently this 10% bonus is not applicable to members in US. First time we actually have an offer that is better than US!

LM seem to be a bit funny at the moment, a bit slow. I will hold off from buying until the website becomes more stable.

Minister for finance is going to be hating me once i buy in again..if shes that angry im more than happy for her to fly AA and JQ on our next trip and i will meet her there ;p

Use United.com to find flights, then enter those into the LM website.

United will show you daily (all available connections) as well as monthly. So much easier!

But United won't show you crazy itinerary like MEL/BNE-SIN-BKK/CGK-KUL. That's the one you can redeem SQ in J outside of T-14. BTW, at the moment I seem to be able to find flights in July only.

Cheers, you probably saved me purchasing a new laptop from the building frustration haha,
