upper deck without any doubt - did that to LAX last year and was in lower on way back - like chalk and cheese

So next question, which seat? Upper or lower. No first class on this flight so picked 3J and 3K based on a quick search here.
Does it matter if you're not sitting together? Then 5B and 5J without a doubt.

Nope. We can manage that! :p

3 EF now!

If there were ever seats made for 2 these are them.

Plus each seat has significant personal storage under the console at your feet.

Then those 2 seats are perfect. You feel like you are in a world of your own. On my SYD-HKG flight last month not one person loitered in front of seat.

Have had similar issues with both Q and VA.

For example set up 3 kids accounts, emails all go to one address (very clearly mine). I know the PINs etc.

No you have to set up an authority to operate IN WRITING.

Done but not forgotten...

The beaty about 3E/F is that if they do swap to a 4 class, then they transpose to a another good pair of seats for a couple.

(& there's no loitering in front with the console.)

I have 5B for a flight later this week.

Do many loiter?

I could have done that - put it in writing. But no. They said they needed to speak to him.

I think I have plonked us in every J seat so far today.

I am not the expert but haven't encountered anyone loitering on my flights in 5B or 5J. Others have mentioned that loitering does occur. Either way for me those 2 seats are winners.

Just thinking about this. QF should just institute SQ's method of paying the top-up at award checkout along with the applicable taxes and fees.

It would be very easy to implement. And I have done this with SQ as you say. They could limit the number of points you can purchase (10%? of fare points) and pay the fee along with the taxes.

Life Miles also accommodate a cash top up.

Yep, on 747. We were up there on a trip to HK, upgraded from Y+ with points. Very nice and quiet. But have decided to imagine I am in the pointy 'old first' end.

Upper deck for me, given the side storage bins. But the row 3 middle pair of seats have nice storage capacity as well.

I'd be very tempted to agree with this medhead.
As a solo traveller I love 5B/5J but on QF12 JFK-LAX a couple of weeks ago I wandered upstairs to use the bathroom mid-flight and it was very zen in comparison to the very full and noisy cabin downstairs.

I was half thinking of a couple in stating my opinion. 5B/J are very good for a solo traveller, aside from the potential for noise.

TBH more recently I have been pinging 14A when solo.

At Easter a day before a flight from HND to SYD I moved from 5B to 14A, much to the delight of a member here who scored an upgrade and subsequently was able to select it.
