I’m just in the process of obtaining approval to travel to the USA for business purposes.

I was checking the Qantas website and noticed that award availability is non-existent

Anyone managed to use Qantas points for non-NZ flights recently?

When are you planning to travel? For all I know QF is not flying passengers ex-Australia at the moment. Only freight.
Or are you looking for partner awards on e.g. JL?

I just looked on QF website and I could find award on July 21 MEL-HKG-LAX with CX.

There is also almost daily availability on AA ex-SYD in J.

So due to the caps being reduced AA is going mostly cargo flights (seems they may be taking pax out of Oz hence the above example?) but QF isn't flying at all. I would say this probably has a fair bit to do with availability (I understand one way out of oz).

I know a friend who was looking to come in around end of July and had an AA award booking and everything was nuked thanks to the reduction in caps, sadly.
