Hi all,

Long time lurker. I am doing a bit more travel lately and looking at getting a subscription to one of the award search sites.
Main purpose would be to snag a upgrade via points.

What would you recommend if most of my points are with Virgin or sitting in an AMEX/Citibank card?

Cheers

Will

Hey there, I'd suggest Award Nexus. If you search using Delta Airlines, you'll be able to see VA award availability as Delta codeshares with VA in Australia.

But in reality, the VA Award Search isnt completely awful either so you can definetly use it to search for free to your hearts content. As a word of advice, when looking for upgrades, these come out of the same pool as award seats so if theres no award seat, there wont be a upgrade either. Of course, its not a hard and fast rule for Platinums but be aware of it.

I personally use Expert Flyer, which is great for Qantas award searches, and for finding flight loadings, but it doesn't cover Virgin Australia upgrades/awards.

Of the three main award availability tools (Expert Flyer, Award Nexus and the KVS tool) only the KVS Tool covers Virgin. KVS has generally good coverage of most of alliance-based airlines, but the interface is quite clunky and it's not free. Award Nexus covers slightly fewer airlines than KVS but is easier to use and AFF members can get a free account: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....free-award-nexus-community-account-50124.html
