AY points sale with status

Hmmm... AY award charts are *really* expensive in terms of points costs :( AY metal sort of ok... but once you start involving partners AY's charts blow even QF out of the water.

There are some sweet spots though..

Am I missing something with AY's availability tool? I have zero points which may be limiting results? But for example, pick JFK-LHR on 5 April and AY's engine returns limited results, and only in coach. AA/AS/QF all return bucket loads of BA/AA/IB flights.
Evidently calling through to the Gold/Plat line gives you more options/availability than online.

Conversely, QR909 is available online at AY however not on QF (18 Aug)

Yeah... it's a mixed bag. Some awards are actually very good value, while others (e.g. CMB-DEL on SriLankan Airlines in J for 250,000 points round-trip - WTF, it's a ~3 hour flight!) are terrible value.

You can still get value from the program though if you stick to the good value awards. Such as flights within Australia/NZ/New Caledonia on Qantas.

Yeah, this is a known issue with QR J award availability to/from Australia. All other oneworld airlines get access to more seats than QF, not just Finnair.

Did you ask about the GST issue when calling the Gold/Plat line?

I'm thinking about doing this for flights to Europe later in the year - but it seems a bit like pot luck if there will be any availability. Any idea if it will be possible to get J?

Are there? I mean if I don’t fly aussie domestic, or to PNG? The rest of the award charts, save possibly some AY metal seem quite expensive. There is the multi airline distance based award… but I’d hate to see the taxes and fuel surcharges on that :(

I crunched some numbers and it might be great for some but I don’t think it is for me. Plenty of cheap J fares ex Asia to Europe that I can spend that money on. If you haven’t got any OW status I suppose it’s good but not sure that their reward availability looks great

Agree. Nobody is suggesting this promo is for everyone.
However if you and a friend/colleague were looking at purchasing say, QC for 2 years through AFF, there's half the cost of this promo already covered as you get Plat and an additional Gold to gift for 2 years. Then you get 250k points to spend on Domestic travel. So if you get more than $2k worth of flights you're at least even.
250k points for $2k spend. Different value proposition for some.

True - but noting the AY membership would not entitle you to lounge access before JQ flights. If you were a frequent flyer on QF metal in economy and didn't have gold this would be a worthwhile deal for sure.

Yes, I'm sure we can keep digging deeper and finding myriad scenarios, pros and cons, all with varying levels of impact.

I just purchased and got my platinum straight away , looks like you don't need to convert 3:1 for additional tier miles , so I still have 400,000 points to redeem.
I've seen a few reports of this happening. Might be a case of dodgy IT working in your favour for once!.

So strange , can not get how to get 50 000 Tier point conversion.
gives me an option 10 Euro plus a lot of money for 40 000 Tier.
hmmmm

yeah there is only up to 40 000 Tier points on the menu.
Seem like a glitch

Any idea on how to get the glitch to happen in my favour? Looking to pick this up tomorrow maybe... if the boss signs off.
