As recently discussed here: RTW Oneworld fare $6.90 per SC

This J fare is now back

Sale ends: 16/03

Originating cities: BNE/MEL/SYD/CBR/ADL/CNS/HBA are roughly the same price (common rated). PER/DRW/OOL are a little more.

Stopovers: 2 stopovers in each direction + the destination itself for a total of 5 stops.

Cheapest routing: xx_ QF SYD QF/AA SFO AY HEL AY YYY AY HEL AY BKK QF SYD QF xx_

where xx_ is your AU domestic port and YYY is your port in the EU.

Prices at about $5170 AUD.

Notes:

You can also use the fare to go xx_ QF SYD QF/AA SFO AY HEL AY YYY and back via the same routing via SFO.

You can also go via Asia both ways.

HKG or SIN as the Asia port also works, but is a few hundred extra.

Must include SFO-HEL or HEL-SFO on AY which only runs on Tue/Thu/Sun from 15 MAY 2018 to 27 SEP 2018.

Looks good although I will need this sale this time next year.
Fingers crossed.

Short of going to a TA and sitting down with them, is there anyway of checking flight options online? eg ITA Matrix / Google Flihhts?

I was pondering this fare previously but ended up going JAL as I could see flight/fare combos online and just sent those to my TA.

Would be even dandier if you could combine with DSCs.

Cheers skip

It is common for Sales to come out after DSC promotions. Often the sales are just as attractive on a $ per SC basis.

This AY fare was available until Jan18 then closed. I wonder why AY has resurrected it for the same period as defined by the seasonal and non stop SFO-HEL vica versa?

Is this fare constructed under the same rules as a xONEX - therefore available via the OW RTW planner? Or a specific AY RTW?

The most important sector that must be included in the itinerary SFO-HEL or HEL-SFO non stop (AY11/AY12) otherwise the fare will be a lot more expensive.

AY historically has operated the older A330 and not the much nicer A350 herringbone J config on this route
If the first international arrival airport was USA, would this fare have a "piece" luggage allowance rather than a "kg" allowance for the entire itinerary?

No. It's more of a regular fare just allowing routings both ways around the world.

Usually when Europe is involved, the furthest ticketed destination is in Europe, and so IATA resolution 302 rules apply rather than the US DoT exemption that provides the piece allowance for the entire ticket.

Thanks for this information. Do I construct an itinerary using the OneWorld site or Finnair?

As a novice on this site, a glossary would help with all the acronyms :(

But my real issue is just how do you book the Finnair deal? Have been to their site and ended up with a potentially very expensive trip. Some guidance from the experts would certainly help. Thanks in advance.

As above use a Travel Agent (TA)
AFF contributor MadRooster works in that industry

OW = One World Alliance
RTW = round the world
AY = Finnair
xONEX = OW RTW fare. x = L,D,A. X = 4,5
LONE4= Economy One World Explorer Fare (RTW) 4 continents. D= business. A=First class

I am very interested in this but again like others who have already replied I would need for this sale to again next year, is this a possibility?

We did this trip last year; BNE SFO HEL MXP TLS MRS LHR KEF HEL SVO NRT BNE over 10 weeks. Finnair were very good. HEL being upgraded. All intermediate flights were OW (usually BA) on pts. MRS LHR was cancelled. Repercussions with BA continuing.

Neither - it can only be priced by a travel agent. If you have an idea of what you want to do, PM me your itinerary and I'll price it for you.
Is there any point looking into Finnair sales prices for RTW trips not originating in Australia. I live near YVR Canada.

Of course many flyers have itineraries beginning outside OZ. You just have to connect to the first port. Prices are often much cheaper than an OZ originating itinerary.

Since all the RTW routes I checked on OneWorld starting from YVR were much more money than the Finnair examples starting in Oz, I wasn't sure it would be possible to get the sales on itineraries starting outside Oz.
