BA Euroflyer Upgrade

Hi all,

Upcoming inter-Europe flight in the second half of 2025 with BA, the flight is operated by 'British Airways Euroflyer' if that matters and is onboard an A320.
In the Manage Booking section of the app and website there is an option to upgrade my flight to business class. This is 'Club Europe' business class which I realise is nowhere near Australian standards of business class.
My ticket must be booked in a fare class ineligible to upgrade with Avios points (not that I have a high balance anyway) which gives me the option to purchase an upgrade with cash. The website has the option to upgrade for £230 and I am considering going for it.

My question for the AFF community is if anyone has experience or insight on Inter-European flights with BA and know whether this price might fluctuate?
Right now the pricing is essentially the same as purchasing business class from the get go, which perhaps I should have done in retrospect. But I would hate to hold out and for the upgrade price to increase a lot, while on the other hand, it would be disappointing to pay now and to find out that BA regularly reduce the asking price to upgrade if I wait.
Happy to take on suggestions from anyone with experience here.

A sample of one, obviously. .....

But my family & I travelled a couple of sectors on BA in Club Europe from LHR to Europe and return, and then within the UK. Each of the Europe sectors was about two & a bit hours.

My son, and subsequently my daughter made late decisions to join us and the fares were, chronologically, incrementally more each time, than my wife & I had paid. Again, a sample of one but I reasoned that Europe doesn't have the Christmas shutdown that Australia does because it's not their summer holidays. The flights were full in Club Europe on each of the sectors.

As an aside, and this is a sample of three ;) ...

I would rate the quality at, as least equivalent to Australian Business Class. We also had the A320 (although going to Madrid the previous year it was a B777 with F sold as J😁!) so I am only comparing the experience to the B737s. Yes, the seat is a converted economy seat but the middle seat becomes a tray with extra space being very useful. The width of the B737 J/CL seats is of no real benefit and they are uncomfortable.

And the food, drink and service was actually excellent on each of the flights - maybe we were lucky

And best of all the Tier Points and Avios are good value - although not so much if you're logging QFF. We work the other way around.

Having said all of that, you are probably better getting advice from someone that has been at the same time of year that you're going

I've flown CE not worth 230

To answer the OPs question, as far as I’ve seen, those “Upgrade” prices don’t fluctuate.

I’ve used them several times as good QF SC earners, but these days they’re pretty pricey for really short flights.

Define ‘worth it’

I’d certainly pay £230 not to sit in economy. Indeed, … I did

Each to their own
Absolutely worth it. Will happily pay that ven for an hour flight to avoid Y.
To answer the question though, I don’t think the price fluctuates

Thanks very much for the insight. No rush on upgrading the flight then (credit card needs a break after Black Friday).
Did not consider the upgraded flight would be one that would earn Qantas SCs too. A nice little bonus.

Thanks for the insight.
Agree, that previous comment from cambriamarsh wasn't helpful at all. I think it would be worth it hence why I am considering upgrading in the first place..

Made the payment today to upgrade, all went through fine but on the confirmation page there is a point under the Important Information section:
  • "If the cardholder is travelling the credit/debit card used to pay for changes to the e-ticket MUST be brought to the airport in order to check-in for the flight."
I am churning this card for points, so have no intention on holding it longer than a few months. I suspect this is probably outdated and not actually required, but just to check with the community if anyone has experienced this and actually had to produce the card that you used to pay for an upgrade? What will they do if you don't have it?

I’ve seen that mentioned before and I’ve also seen reports of peeps coming to grief not having the card BUT I’ve NEVER been asked to show a card - including two very recent flights.

Thanks very much for your insight. It does seem like an odd and extreme measure on BA's behalf to require this - and for what purpose?
There are so many reasons why someone might not have that card with them (fraud on card and replaced, someone else paid for upgrade etc.).

Can I ask if you checked in to your flight at the airport or online? Assuming you did it online, I am wondering if perhaps this might flag if you check in at the airport in person.
(I'll need to check in online anyway in order to avoid having to pay for seat selection which I think is ridiculous for business class).

Checked in online but used F/J checkin for luggage.
