BA reward ticket on QF flt canx, rebooked NZ: compensation?

My situation: BA reward ticket for QF 153 MEL-AKL today at 1.55pm. Apparently that flight was oversold so they've rebooked me onto NZ 128 MEL-AKL at 5pm. Delay of 3h05mins. Do I get any compenstation for that? Not sure whether it being a BA ticket means I can make a claim under EU regulations or if it is QF rules that applies (which suggests no compenstation)? I didn't volunteer, I just got a text saying you've been rescheduled to 5pm and it wasn't until I went into MMB that it turned out I was rebooked onto NZ and not another QF flight.

A bit disappointing. Am currently making up my mind whether to put my future tasman business to either NZ or QF as I am also weighting up whether to renew my Koru membership. Was rather looking forward to this QF flight to compare it with NZ. Oh well, the upside of today's hiccup is QF has made my decision much easier! :)

I find it interesting that Qantas put you on another carrier. That’s how it was in the “old” days.
Last September I was flying QF SYD to JNB connecting to BA to LHR on a J award ticket.
QF63 was running late ( or rather the flight that would become QF63 ) meaning I’d miss the connection in JNB. I got a text the night before saying they had rebooked me on QR through DOH to LHR.
Win win for me but given the perceived relationship between the two airlines, I imagine it was done through gritted teeth !
 
No compensation sorry. Flights from outside EU/UK to destinations outside EU/UK are not covered by EU/UK 261…and Australian regulations just says tough.
Yes, and also to add that ticketing alone doesn’t automatically apply EU/UK261. A BA award ticket issued for a qantas operated aircraft and flight number SYD-LHR wouldn’t be covered either.

Indeed, a closer read of the regulations suggests you're right -- it's to do with the operator of the flight and not the ticketing carrier.

In this case it was to NZ which I suspect QF would not like either. I was impressed with the food/service/etc on NZ so will go with them for my next few tasman trips -- not helping generate repeat business for QF (but very helpful for NZ). And QF must have paid a good sum of money as I got full Y points/credits to my NZ airpoints account as well which was a nice bonus.
