Hi, am trying to use classic award points LA to NY direct in June 2011 direct. There are many going through Dallas etc...but I dont want to a stop.

Funny thing, I found LA to NY to Montreal. The LA to NY is direct.

Question is can I just do the LA to NY leg and not do the Montreal. My main concern is luggage. Do i tell the check in that I am only travelling to NY and am not going through to Montreal. Obviously I do need to tell check-in counter but will they then penalise me in some way??

If you are only travelling ONE way then there's not much of a problem with what you propose.

You can ask the agent in LA to 'short-check' your bags to New York only. If theey need a reason say 'business papers I need to take out and give to someone', whatever, not important. however - if its a very short connection time you might have an issue (but I've never come across it).

If you are flying return, the problem is that they will cancel all other segments of your trip if you 'no show' for one flight. Once cancelled you won't get it back again.

Out of courtesy you should advise the airline once you arrive in NY that you will not be taking the flight to Montreal. If you don't tell them (and its a same day connection) they will be waiting for you.

Maybe ring the call centre and see if they can just get the LAX-JFK award?

If you get someone nice, they might waive the assisted booking fee seeing you can't get just that flight online.
