Bad Virgin Experience...

Hahahaha!! You had VB Spewy (VH-VBU) the only 737-700 with no live2air and the only plane in the entire fleet with cloth seats. It is nearly 11 years old, should be gone soon - i hope. But due to operational requirements and other factors, you got it. You get what your given, tough luck.

Better luck next time!

I suspect Jack's response would have been entirely different if the OP's experience had been on a QF flight!!

I don't think asking for a refund is necessarily appropriate, but why don't you write in and see if you're offered anything?

I often think we are just to polite, especially to the airlines. If I went into a restaurant and got served smelly stale cold food on an unwashed plate (by a rude waiter) I would send it back and not pay for it. Similar situation.

I think it might also be different if he had actually flown on that aircraft. VBU is probably one if my preferred DJ aircraft, if my memory is working.

Firstly the seatmap was showing a refit A/C.When we boarded not only was it the old PE seats but there was no live2air

Not all aircraft were originally fitted with live to air, as PE guests you should have been offered a digiplayer
Aircraft types arent confirmed obviously due to operational requirements
Technically in regards to the seating, it was what you booked , PE seating.
At this stage I dont think any 700's have been converted to J seating
There are around 38 800's now have the J class seating.

we where given Y food and no choice of drinks! Just juice or water.
On this particular routing, MEL-CBR ALL pax are offered a complimentary snack and a non alcoholic drink, there is no retail menu service offered due to the shortened flight time , around 45 mins.

Maybe on this level DJ failed to notify or provide you with relevant F&B options onboard as a PE guest

It's a tough one, I'm giving VA a lot of lee way through this transition period. Stuff I'd normally jump down QF's feedback line I've let slip for my VA experiences of late.

I appreciate it's a huge cultural change for their business and I feel for the staff who quite frankly are working with a 50% solution at the moment and certainly seem a little bit out of the loop sometimes. Feel a bit sorry for them.

I know this probably doesn't hope but I honestly think in a year or so they will be much improved :)

Maybe because any communication that contains as many grammatical and spelling errors as the OP's message might not be taken as seriously as it perhaps should. Despite the message being understandable (just) its point could be missed in the tangle of tortured language!

Yes agree. It's a strong perception issue. You wouldn't employ someone on this basis either.

Why do I associate poor grammar and spelling with low grade schooling?

I use to enjoy (relatively speaking) reading the "Letters to the Editor" in my local rag. They have recently, largely replaced the letters with text messages. I now don't bother to attempt to read the drivel that is printed exactly as sent by SMS.

At the risk of going OT, the OP did in fact mention he was traveling with his family (including his sister), which may indicate he is in the generation where SMS messaging seems to dictate that spelling and grammar is thrown out the window to facilitate a "speedy" message.

Or simply an indictment of our current education system.

Actually spelling and grammar are primarily thrown out in SMS because of the character limitations traditionally involved in using the Short Message Service.

I have a mate, who is a high school teacher, if anyone hands in an assignment / work, that has any text speak whatsoever, they are given it back unmarked and told to rewrite in correct English. Not sure whether it's just his school, but apparently it's now very common for teachers to do that. He has been doing it for years, and now it's very rare that a student submits "text talk" in their assignments.

To the OP. Have you submitted any feedback on your experience? I would definitely mention something and if you paid for a service and did not receive it then surely a refund is not out of the question.

Why are some people saying, hinting, accept and move on? It is this type of attitude that has allowed service levels to drop in recent times....

Yes, I completely agree.

Whilst I'm quite sure we all understand that sometimes reality impedes upon a good plan, if the service provider expects me to put up with a bit less than I anticipated it seems quite reasonable that the burden should be shared and that the provider should also put up with a 'bit less' than was anticipated. A good contract, after all, is a win-win for both sides.
