Hi there

I am booked on VA641, VA29, EY31, Canberra-Sydney-Abu Dhabi-Paris.

My booking shows that I have '2 bags included' on each sector. Is this false for the EY sector?

The call centre told me I have '30kg' included across the trip due to the EY allowance being lower.

According to the VA website as a Silver member I have 10kg extra baggage allowance with EY.

According to the EY website, the economy breaking deal and saver fare allowance is 23kg, 1 bag. The economy value and freedom allowances is 2 bags, 23kg each. What is a VA points booking on EY the equivalent of?

So as VA Silver/EY no status, shouldn't I have a 33kg allowance?

And if I become EY silver before I fly, will I be eligible for the 2 x 23kg bag allowance as per this page?

Is it OK that I am confused?

If you're in J and silver at the time you fly, your total allowance is 50KG. It doesnt matter what number of bags thats in assuming they arent enormous dimensions.

If your in Y and silver at the time you fly, your total allowance would be 40KG. The details are based upon the awards to/from Abu Dhabi and codeshares with Etihad here under the Velocity award section: http://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/plan/baggage/checked-baggage/#international-long-haul

The problem is that the call centre aren't normally that good with the baggage allowances on redemptions. So just assume their wrong and use the website as you can evidence that to the check in agent, you cant evidence a phone call.

Thanks Scottz95!

So won't help if I become Etihad silver?

I'd doubt it honestly. I dont think Etihad would let you double dip on status perks. VA might but it would be up to the person at the check in counter to make that call so I wouldnt hold your breath.
